What do you want to know? I had a lot of the common e36 m3 problems. Luckily, I didn't have the self combustion (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=79896&) problem...

Er, so lemme think. It's been a while...

Final stage resistor - Air-conditioning would just cut out. It would save itself for the summertimes in Diamond Bar. FU final stage resistor. FU.
Brake light switch failure twice
Some relay that caused the windows to stop working...
Entire dash stopped working, never found out why
CD changer decided to stop working every now and again. Replaced.
Rear shock mounts disassembled themselves twice.. (note, if this problem isn't caught and fixed, it'll rip through the body
Transmission began to rest underneath 5th
Engine went into limp mode for some reason. Never found out why. Gave it to 2 different dealers for 10+ warrenty visits. Car never idled correctly after that.
Premature o2 sensor failure
Trunk lock failure
Gas guage would just randomly decide to stick at 1/4. It was actually sorta comical to see the thing go from 1/4 to full back to 1/4 while travelling at 70mph. :idiot2:

I know I'm missing stuff... that car caused me a lot of frustration. I owned the car for a little over 5 years, tried to get rid of it once but it came back (stupid story, don't sell cars to family members,) But yeah, at least my car never lit itself on fire. :D

I doubt I'll own another BMW.... well, unless I can afford a M5. At which point I'd probably buy one.

there were like 3 of these m3s parked at the in and out on sand canyon in canyon counrty about a year ago. They had blacked wheels and black rear and front bumpers and some black tape on them. I dont know why they do this,,, ive seen other weird cars like this too... maybe doing road tests?

if you ever want to see something funny go to bimmerfest or anywhere bmws gather. you will spot a contingent of e46 m3s with the following mods.

csl trunk, csl rear diffuser (its actually just a carbon bumper insert), csl front bumper, eishenman race exhaust, 19" bbs lms. i swear.

anyway if you want to see the biggest ricers show up to bimmerfest or socal euro. its good for a few laughs.

good find.

i have 2 neighbors (they're paternal twin brothers) and both want the M3...at least one will get one.

but the one that's most likely to get it will have to wait...he said 2 years.

but that article said they'll be released in 2007. so, im guessing in a year or so the m3 will be released as a 2008 model?

Hopefully BMW will greatly improve SMG. merc is putting the smack down with their 7speed tranny and the power they're getting from AMG is Krazy.

SMG can't hang w/DSG... The wave of the future.

I can't wait to see the new M3 in person. It's too bad M3 drivers have a worse stigma of being cocksuckers than Porsche and Vette drivers combined. I still would rather have an M5...

I have been reading a lot of reviews from different critics and i spoke with a few owners who have driven both brands and most are leaning towards merc as far as trannys are concern. of course the bmw has better handling and feel for the road but, merc is a more user friendly car

I didnt like AMG as much. I loved how i could time it right and get a downshift rev out of the M3 with the SMG. The shifting is just amazing....if they made any improvments at all to the new M3s shifting I will probably Sh*% myself in amazement. It already shifts so fast. It was very hard to decide between a stick and a smg on that one. I love stick but the reaction time from shifting with the smg... i dont think a stick would be able to keep up

the s8 in ronin was a far cry from the newer s8's...granted the one in ronin had a fully worked on suspension and nitrous...but still. it doesnt do the newer one's justice because they're not as talked about or driven for that matter...most people would end up getting something else...usually for audi's you see the different a4 confirgirations, the the a6, a8, then you get the speed junkies with money who will get the s-line card (not just the s-line badging in itself) s4, s6, rs4, rs6, etc etc.

Beaver,

Biggest knock on the car i guess is the fact it understeers like a pig at least thats what I have read, my experience in seeing them at the track and driving one of my friends is that understeer is not really an issue with 500hp but thats just me, he says the same, although his first mod is going to be matching tire sizes all the way around so words and actions dont match up for him.

there is no doubt in my mine. the M5 and M6 are both really incredible cars but, there is stiff competition out there. the battle for first is so close that opinion is deciding who the win really is. the funny thing is no matter which one you by E63 or M5 you are still a winner.

Chris those GTI's are really cool looking now. How's it drive?

The GTI is a lot of fun. I got it w/DSG, no sunroof, 18" wheels, and Sirius. I wanted to keep it simple. It's fast enough that I've smoked a couple of 350Zs so far. I know one was an automatic, but it's still pretty impressive. It makes all of its torque by 1800 rpms, so it just pulls. Obviously it's not Evo fast, but it's a lot quicker than most people expect. I gave test rides/drives to the Evo guys out here and all of them really liked it.

Man, if I get back to CA (which is looking likely in about 6 months or so), the first thing I am going to do is drive to the Porsche dealer and order my GT3. No joke. I am thinking white is the color, but I am open to suggestions (except red - I like my driver's license). And of course you'll get a ride... O0
