I was in Tucson from 89 to 96 initially sent there by mom & pop to stay out of trouble but eventually went to University of Arizona there. I moved back here after graduated but went back there occasionally for visit my wife's relative. Which part that you were in Tucson? Welcome to SoCal.

Yeah! I used to drive my miata to the end of the east side on speedway back then. I'm pretty sure it'll still hot now since I lived there for 7 years and it never cool in the summer. :-)

It is pretty nice, much tamer than California, the houses are waaaaaaay cheaper, but the catch is that it gets pretty hot in the summer and wages are lower.

Ok for those in you in Tucson where is the nicests areas and any of you guys work in aviation or know people who do....I am at about 85% that I am moving out there. I like the area the weather is fine by me and I need to find a state where no one in my family is...there all crazy...appreciate all the info

Saikou_Kun
05-29-2006, 01:56 PM
There are alot of nice areas to live in right now, North side, East side, and North west side have alot of new developments going up. You can still find houses for 120k but they are going up in price FAST. I would choose North or East Tucson cuz that's where all the newest shopping centers are opening up.
I dunno about the aviation market though.

blkside
05-29-2006, 02:02 PM
Appreciate the info...I am looking for something not too much of a drive from the hub of the city. I am looking for a 3-4BD and at least 2500SQ FT. Are the houses going for 120 new or older homes. I am gonna come spend the weekend out there to come look around in Sept when I get home from the desert.

slow_evo

120K will buy you a shack in the ghetto. If you want a decent to nice house in a nice area, you're looking at ~ 240K - 350K. But it is rising as we speak. There are a lot of new lots opening up on Old Spanish Trail, try googling it. Or look into the foothills....don't worry, nothing is more than a 25min drive away in Tucson so don't worry about communting. As far as aviation, in what area are you referring to? Airport? Or AFB?

blkside
05-29-2006, 02:50 PM
Well right now I am looking at getting an apartment for the 1st couple of months so I can do an in depth house search...I am gonna be in the 250-300K range. I am a helicopter mechanic...I am not sure whats out there besides Aero-tek but AZ is where I like the cost of living...weather...and not near family...except one cousin. If you got info I am always listening...appreciate

slow_evo
05-29-2006, 03:05 PM
Hmmm.....Helicopter mechanic.......I would say try Tucson Int'l Airport. Or see if the AFB has a slot open for a civilian slot open for a helicopter mech. I would say those are your only options unless you want to look into Phx as well. But it is always about 10 - 15 deg hotter there.

Im flexible about location but I like the Tucson area a lot better....trying to stay away from the ghetto....so I will def look into the airport. If you wanna show a brother around when I am down there....be my guest.... O0

No shlt I am in Iraq and I get back end of August...early sept...I cant wait to get the hel out of here...but you guys only do 90-6mos rotations right....well you can tell me where the ghetto is so I can avoid it....I have enough ghetto in my younger days.....

slow_evo
05-29-2006, 05:45 PM
Hahaha...no. They're in Phx (2 hrs away). The only reputable shop here in Tuckson is IA performance, but its still kinda eh. How long you been over there? You're enlisted right?

blkside
05-29-2006, 05:55 PM
Ive been here 9 months...3 to go. This is my second Iraq tour and we were the 1st unit in Afgahnistan 2 months after the tower....you think I would have had enough desert by now...yeha I am a Sgt (E5). I like the southwest but you cant be prosperous in Ca...1800 for a 3 bed apartment thats old...I was looking at an apartment for the 1st 6 months and was amazed to see a newer 3 BD with 1100SQ for 880 a month...

slow_evo
05-29-2006, 06:01 PM
Wow. Be careful over there man. I'm a E4 in the AF. Housing over here is a lot cheaper than CA. But the only thing that sucks is that most of the time you get paid less so it kinda equals out, but it depends on the job. I'm goin to Balad, is that where you are?

blkside
05-29-2006, 06:09 PM
I was at balad the first 4 months...its so sham...they have 2 NEW olympic pools(1 in 1 out) a huge movie theatre...subway...pizza place..you got it made...dont sweat it...I wish I was back there...where i am at now sux....we have a few lil things but its on the other side and I do not give up sleep...I was actually looking at doing postal so I can keep my federal for retirement...and thats the most secure job you can get....my wife is an accountant so between the 2 of us we should pull in at least 70K a year...postal pays more in AZ than they do in CA...and I dont know why plus the website says they look at prior military as previous employess plus we get vet preference...so thats def an option...

slow_evo
05-29-2006, 06:52 PM
Thanks for the heads up. I feel a lot better now and I respect you army guys a lot...a year is a LONG time to be away from home. But you're almost done so just keep positive. Yeah I was looking at the postal thing too. I'm a vehicle mechanic so I could get a job working with their fleet. I don't get out til '09 tho. If you have any other questions feel free man.

Peace!

Oh BTW....how many attacks a day did you guys get at Balad?

How often do you get to call home?

blkside
05-29-2006, 06:57 PM
Yeah you will enjoy it for the few months you are here....they have parties with music and stuff there...so its pretty laid back...plus chicks in bathing suits is better than nothing.....where are the nicer places in Tucson? I am not worried about driving to work but I wanna be in a good neighborhood. I have 2 kids and just bought the wife a 06 Mit Outlander and I am getting a IX SE so I wanna be somewhere the cars wont get messed with....I am def gonna get a house with at least a 2 hopefully a 3 car garage so I can keep those 2 safe and have enough room for a project car...an older DSM would be nice....thanks for the info Bro....are you at Montham?

slow_evo
05-29-2006, 07:17 PM
Parties huh? Are the chicks Army or AF? Hahaha....but anyways, the nicer places in Tucson, do you want streets? Or apt complexs? What's easier for you?

And yes I am at Davis-Monthan AFB. It's hot. lol

blkside
05-29-2006, 07:23 PM
Its AF and army chicks and some are damn fine. It doesnt matter streets complexes...was looking at a few Tierra Rica Apartments
3201 W. Ina Rd.......Rock Ridge 10333 N. Oracle Rd.........Sonoran Terraces Luxury Apartments 7887 North La Cholla......Camino Seco Village
77 N. Camino Seco ...I know camino seco is east of the base...its not far at all....those are what I was looking at...good areas

slow_evo
05-29-2006, 07:31 PM
Yes. those are good areas. But the one on Ina, it's about average. Ina and Sunrise are the same street. Try to find something on Sunrise. Try to stay east of the base and north of it. But there are some nice places in the far SE corner of the town. Oh and stay the hell away from the airport area and the casinos. Kinda bad over there. I live in Tucson Rental homes, check 'em out. they are really big apts and you don't share a wall w/ anyone. It's as close to a house as you're gonna get w/o actually buying a house. I have a garage here too so my evo can rest in peace, but before I had one, I parked it outside and didn't sweat it at all. Very nice and quiet area....it's away from all the crazy ppl in the city. There are some diff locations, I live in the Speedway and Houghton one. Check it out whenever you have time.

blkside
05-29-2006, 08:04 PM
I am gonna look into it right now...I was trying to stay east so thats good...her cousin lives directly north of the base on Calle Los Altos so I know its gotta be a decent area. He is the prez of a mortgage co so if it was bad I am sure he would move. Thanks for the info....

blkside
05-29-2006, 08:18 PM
I love that shit...it is badass...it has a garage for the EVO... a parking spot for the outlander...enough room for us and its close to where I want to be....any other EVO's besides you there? La Mariposa is where your at right....thats the one I was looking at....I was looking at the 2/2...

slow_evo
05-29-2006, 09:17 PM
Nope. Only evo here.

I'm not sure what you mean by La Mariposa? Is that what the 2 bed/ 2 bath is called? Idk.

blkside
05-30-2006, 07:58 PM
Yeah I think they call the property you are on Mariposa and I emailed some guy named Talan...I am gonna come down in Sept with the wifey and take a look around. Where are the good restaurants to eat and where should I avoid. My wife got online and looked at the place and she absolutely loved it. I didnt even have to sell her on it...so maybe you will have another EVO around...Vivid anyone.....

slow_evo
05-30-2006, 08:35 PM
LOL!!! I don't think I know what you're talking about....Mariposa? Were you on http://www.tucsonrentalhomes.com/? Cuz that's where I'm at. But maybe I should check out this "Mariposa" place too lol.

Oh and about Vivid....fo sho...

Its all good...My wife likes it and I like it and I got just got a job offer today from Raytheon which is right down the street. Life is definitely looking up. You said you repair vehicles for the AF...so have you done any mods to your EVO...you got an VIII or a IX...I have a IX thats gonna be held for me..but I am special...I am gonna get a GG SE. I told the guy that I want a garage...he said its 20X10.big enough for 2 cars....cause I would like to keep the Outlander secure too...were in the miitary....were all jackasses

slow_evo
05-30-2006, 09:05 PM
Oh Raytheon is a very big corp over here. My friend's dad is an engineer there. The stuff I have done to my VIII are Hotchkis Springs (getting coilovers when I get back), turbo timer (for the bling), K & N drop in for now. I have intake, oil catch can, and mini battery that I haven't put on yet but that's cuz I'm waiting for my exhaust, gauges, and SAFC.

The 2 car garage....I have not seen one at this location before. They only have 1 car garages here. Maybe he ment get 2, 1 car garages?? I have no idea.

blkside
05-30-2006, 09:13 PM
Yeah I dont care as long as the EVO is protected. I would love to work for Raytheon. Hopefully they have openings closer to me getting out. I appreciate the info...I am looking at all the mods I am gonna do...def starting out with a stage 1 Buschur and going from there. Gonna get Swift springs too. Like it low and able to handle like a slot car. Take it easy...

slow_evo
05-30-2006, 09:24 PM
