So I was all happy with my dream of having 2 Evos in my garage.....when yesterday......along comes this beautiful white S2K w/ blk & red interior driving along next to me with the top down on the 10 fwy....carbon fiber lip...some sort of bling wheels certainly not stock....(with the required metro sexual asian guy driving) the thing looked SWEET!!! I loved that car! :smitten: now I'm undecided what to get :-\ I've been thinking about that car all day!!!! Thoughts of zipping along with the top down!!! What fun!!!

DAMN U WHITE S2K!!!!!!!!! :tickedoff:

i dont get the whole appeal of having 2 EVOs unless ofcourse your making one a full race car. so id say get the s2k you can make them into amazing track cars and it will give you a new experiance in driving a RWD car.

do you have a track only evo and the other daily driver? i see no point in 2 evos. sorry.

my suggestion would be something else besides an evo, there so many options out there. at the end its her call

S2000 all the way, good color choice too. That way you can have the the S for just cruising, and the Evo if you just want to rough it up. Plus maintenance will be a lot less AND there's autowave for all your tuning needs.

**sigh** love the S2K Macky....but not the "Ricey" wing......

If I got the S2K I wouldn't track it...it would be a good excuse to buy pretty JDM parts for it :smitten:

Definantly get the s2000 if you can. I have one and I love it, no offense to evo's I drive one, but the s2000 is funner to drive hands down, especially with the top down, though it doest make the car slower due to drag. Even though it doesnt have the torque or power the handling is amazing it's like a go kart. You just dont get the power you do from the evo, so i got both, couldnt resist.

granted you will be paying for aftermarket parts, the Evo has a big chip on its side - practicality.

you can haul ass and haul shit at the same time on an Evo, but not on an S2K. think about that.

with the s2000 you wont have any turbo lag...but you have to wait for the rpms to get up there. you cant really complain when you're redline is either 9000rpm on the 2.0 or 8000rpm on the 2.2 s2k. you can go topless (already mentioned). and the s2k is also better on gas. dont forget Push Start engine ignition =P

Gas mileage is a little better, but not by much though. EPA rates it @ 20 citiy / 26 highway. And it still requires 91.

to run that aggressive of cams, you would need to practically tear down the motor and rebuild the head and the valvetrain to make any reliable power...itb's dont add as much power for what you pay for them especailly since you could make the same 15ish whp with a good throttle body/intake combo.

miss evo8...u can just show up at one of ur local s2k meets if u ever wanna test drive a stock one or test drive a SC one :) u will like the car i'm pretty sure.

imo the f20c is the closest engine u can get to a motorcycle motor.....u have to rev the piss out of it to get maximum power (contray to turbo's boost which dies down toward redline). the sound of the vtec crossover is also very addictive ;)

a bolt-on Vortech SC ($5k for brand new kit with install) can put 5-6 cars on a stock s2k, n/a mods dont do anythin for the s2k, so if u're lookin for power just go FI, the SC kits (vortech and comptech(slightly more expensive)) are very reliable.

there is one guy, who goes by "sideways" on s2k boards, who is pushing 450whp+ on mustang dyno.

yea the comptech makes more power but it costs more :( with an aftercooler it'll cost a grand more than vortech iirc.

turbo will be costly, as the oem engine's cr is really high, so the tuner would have to mess with some extra stuff for the turbo to be reliable.

the SC kit is just bolt-on's, and have been really reliable on the s2k's :)

btw "sideways" is pushing 450whp+ with a vortech SC....

Also with the comptech s/c you can keep the factory warrenty because honda approves of it. And if you want to turbo there is this new kit that is about 5 thousand and it's pretty reliable, it comes with a thicker head gasket that lowers compersion to 9.2 or something close to that, and makes about 400hp.

Thanks! When and where are these meets?
If I do get an S2K I have NO plans to do major power upgrades! A 500 WHP daily is retarded! I may as well just drive the Evo every day! Supspension and Brakes are tops on my list along with Sirius radio and an iPod connection!

no problem :)

check out http://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?s=193b01918f90cac29a29d27780e57888&showforum=16 - socal forum on the s2k boards...you can look for meets closer to SD or the Inland Empire :) i dunno what city you're in so not sure which location is better for you...

btw the new is350 in paddle shift mode is respectfully fast....a novice driver in that car goin WOT and paddle shifting can keep up or beat a novice driver in an s2k in the straightline already.....

check: http://media.putfile.com/0-84-mph

then smg e46 m3 - check: http://media.putfile.com/BMW-SMG-0-157mph

both stock. is350 is pretty darn quick in the straightline, but dont expect too much outta the handling department..

i agree just leave the s2k n/a, or stock with suspension mods....on a set of good coils they're good enough to destroy lots of cars with more power on the track already. plus it's just a blast to drive - pure joy to drive imo.

if miss evo 8 wants to upgrade the sound system, it's probably better to get the 06 model since the driver and passenger rollbars both have speakers in them, which makes it a lot easier to hear music clearer...the pre-06 models on the highway or with top down it's a bit of a stress to hear the music, cuz the soft top allows too much wind noise at 65mph+. getting a hard top helps, but they're costly.

but i'd get an ap1 (pre 04, with 9000 redline). imo it's much more raw, and the suspension's more challenging to drive than the modified 04's (made more tame for the general population's skills). both ap1 and ap2 are practically identical in acceleration, but i personally find the ap1 more fun to drive (no offense to ap2 owners of course)

miss evo8 might find herself takin the Evo as her daily, and the s2k as the weekend warrior ;) i kid i kid :D

yeah, i think she's thinking about the old IS300. the IS350s are strong. lol

I'll be picking up a IS350 within the next few weeks. This car is probably one of the most comfortable I've been in. It simply fits me like a glove. I wouldn't expect too much out of the handling dept since it's handicapped by the electronic nannies, but it makes for the perfect daily driver IMO.

i view this as an attention whore thread... whichever car you get... you'll prolly get rid of it anyway... want the s2k? get the s2k... is there a NEED for two evos? no... but it would be nice... then again... wouldn't you want to diversify your collection of cars?

I think you can still lease a brand-new S2000 for: $299/mo. with somewhere around $3,500 down - that's a pretty good deal, because your payments would be around $600/mo., with about that same down payment, if you were to finance instead. checkout Honda's website to see if that lease deal still exists? Otherwise, just get another Evo - you won't regret it.

2006 may not be the last year, but there is not a redesign in the works. Also, Evos are much costlier to insure than an S2K. My S2K added $300/year to my Evo policy.

What insurance company was that? That's amazing considering the number of Evo losses to theft, accidents, vandalism, etc.

I only started this thred...not as an "attention whore" post as Flip stated... But just to get some ideas..... I had guessed some of u had experience with an S2K and I was right....I drive A LOT so I'm not sure a lease would be any good...does anyone know if there's "higher mileage" leases? Insurance...my records pretty good...one speeding ticket which come off in August... I only pay $140 per month for my Evo that doesn't seem to be that bad so I'm not worried about insurance costs.

Chris in SD
06-14-2006, 05:53 AM
Just call your insurance company and ask them what it would cost to add an S2K. I would recommend picking up an '03 (if you want the 9K redline) or an '04 (if you want more torque and a better interior). There should be plenty of lease turn-ins and most S2K owners are fanatics about maintenance.

SpoolinEvoVIII
06-14-2006, 07:27 AM
If I remember correctly, my insurance was also cheaper with the Evo vs. S2000. S2000's seem to be vandalized a lot also and probably cost as much as the Evo to fix (i.e. expensive). Both were listed as a second car. I'm on AAA insurance.

You can get higher mileage leases. I had a 15000 miles/yr lease on my '02 S2000 for about $20 more per month.

First off I want to say there is nothing wrong with a 500HP daily driver. look and the new M5 and the M6. or the new Z06. you should get that out of your head. :-P. being an evo driver you will always demand more out of your car. I too have been looking at the s2k and I think you will be more than happy with the car. I would not buy a new one cause you can get a great deal on a used one. the car feels great to sit in, it's a convert. and the engine sound is music to the ears. I will buy one soon after I move. the car looks great too. not to mention the fun factor. so, keeps the miles down on the evo and get the s2k O0

who mentioned anything wrong with a 500hp daily driver?
those cars you mentioned are good high hp daily drivers because they come STOCK like that. on the other hand, driving a highly modified evo is costly on gas and highly likely to gain attention...especially fromt he cops.

but yea...get the s2k =P

miss evo8....did you find a meet to go to?

i couldn't find dealers that do lease on used s2k's, so not sure how that would work out.

the answer to the question of ap1 vs. ap2 is very simple. drive them back to back. i found the ap1 to be much more raw. the ap2 is too civilized IMO.

i could not feel much, if any, difference btwn the cars' torque.

I liked my AP2 (2.2L) a lot more than my AP1. The ONLY thing I missed was the 9K redline (it made the VTEC zone too narrow). I liked the revised suspension, bigger wheels/tires, and esp. the updated interior. The center console doesn't sound like a big thing, but the newer one was definitely more useful. Either way, it's a winner.

I haven't driven either of them...I have browsed the InTARDnet for some used ones and youre righy there are some excellent deals to be had! Used ones with low miles! I've had Hondas for years and yeah sometimes I do miss the 8000+ revs..had a civic with a built motor...hee hee I could rev that thing to 10K haa haa. Im really not looking for high hp..thats why I have the Evo! so if I get the 2.0 or 2.2 its no difference to me..just looking for that lovely color combo of white and red! :smitten: :smitten: I have a day off today so maybe I will quit being lazy and go down to the local Honda dealer and test drive one..maybe scare the crap out of the salesman with my driving...

i have a couple of buddies that work as techs at honda, they were telling me that used an AP1 ecu (2.0L)
in an AP2 (2.2L) and it allowed it to rev to 9k...now if the valvetrain can handle it who knows... but im pretty sure both 2.0 and 2.2 use the same valve springs, so it should be fine, i thogut all they did was increase the displacement :?

It matters about several things when you are talking about 9k rpms not just valve train or valve float.

How was the displacement increased? bore? bore and stroke? stroked? if the last two were the approach you could hit a dangerously unsafe piston speed depending on the length of the revised stroke....

You are correct, sir... There is a HUGE thread on S2Ki.com about the 2.2L and high RPMs. Bottom line is that the increased piston speed and the crank angle (of the rod/piston) will have deleterious effects on your "Gold Top" if you bump the rev limit... All the time attack S2Ks are 2.0L with enhanced valvetrains, titanium internals, and ported heads.

I wholeheartedly agree. If an S2000 wasn't completely useless here in VA (too hot in the summer, snow in the winter), I would have got another one instead of my GTI. They are fantastic cars - super reliable, a lot of fun, good looks. It's too bad Honda is killing it off...

Ask your friend why he wants an '06 - the new ones have traction control, etc. Most S2K owners I know want less, not more, drivers' aids. Personally, I think the 2.2L 2005 is the best one - all the updates, nothing extra, more torque.
