The super charger is ONLY good for til' 2400 RPMS until
"the supercharger then decouples from the crankshaft drive pulley via a magnetically actuated clutch while a control flap closes its channel to the inlet manifold"

then the turbo kicks in at full boost, so you never have lag

but the good thing is,*

it's light weight
equal amounts of tq
38mpg??

Basically, the two boosting components are installed in series.

All in all, if you "beef" it up I think that thing would be a fuggin bullet!

This is old news!!! The setup is optimized for fuel efficiency and smoothness rather than all out power. The goal of the setup is to get the feel of a larger naturally aspirated engine with fuel efficiency in mind.

comp. ratio is likely low and they have better gas than we do.

It's only 1.4L and given the power locked in the 2.0T FSI engine, I bet there's a lot of potential there (~250hp or so). They just want to make it reliable. +1 on the bigger displacement feel...

i bet this car would keep your head planted from the get go though

stop thinking about peak power and when you look at the curve on this beast you'll be wowed.

the guys over at mr2oc.com are trying to copy the twincharger design on this car on the MK1 88-89 mr2 supercharged by adding a turbo.

GTI is overpriced? I don't think so. I bought one precisely because of the price - it is a great car, good power and potential, awesome interior, just all around fun. An SRT-4 is faster, but who wants to be seen in a Neon plus the interior sucks. I could have got a used RS Evo for the same money, but I wanted to avoid the po-po this time. The new GTI is really well-built (in Germany, unlike previous GTIs from Mexico).

My GTI was $24.8K out the door. That included DSG, Sirius, 18" wheels. If you skip the options, it's like $23K and still pretty loaded (6-speed, good stereo, 17", xenons, etc.).
