View Full Version : how high do you rev up before moving from a full stop?

just curious to see how other ppl are doing this. i hardly rev at all, lol. the car idles at 800-900rpm and i rev to about 1100-1200 rpm when in 1st gear going from a full stop. most of my friends rev up to 2k-ish before they start moving.
i guess i dont gas up more because it kinda became my habit. my parking spot is next to my neighbor's car and when i go home, i would always rev BARELY enough to go in and not stall because i set off his car alarm, lol.

i hardly rev at all either. just to about 1100 and i'll start moving.

i think people that rev up to 2000+ are letting the clutch out late

Haha...just saw this on EvoM...

I have been wondering the same thing...i go about 1200 rpm...

~15-2k.

the car shudders mean if i dont rev it and slip it. and im sure a bigger turbo isnt really helping either. i try to keep the RPMs low, but fk me if im gonna kill my clutch because its doing something wierd. wouldnt it be just awesome if i glazed the surface of the plate and i had to replace the clutch?

Most of the time, I usually roll right off the clutch from a dead stop on level roads and declines... If it a decline is deep enough, I can take off in 2nd or 3rd just rolling off clutch...

On inclines and reverse, I'll blip it once or twice before I slip the clutch...

Will hold at 6500rpm till I smell burning clutch ha ha! No seriously, probably around 1000-1200 rpm as long as I'm not bogging the engine or it shakes as if it's ready to stall :-P

08-26-2006, 07:29 PM
it really depends on how fast you wanna leave the stop right? you can't clutch out fast when yuo're at 1200 it'll bog the car. you have to be at least at 2k. if you're just mosying around 1.2k is fine.

Absolutely. If I'm not going to be doing any jackrabbit starts, then yeah, the car pretty much bogs as I ease off the clutch. Just habit, I guess.

It's nice to be able to set your stationary rev limit. That way you always hit 5000 rpm before you start moving.

1200 - 1800 with exedy twin plate.

say when
09-08-2006, 07:16 AM
seems like most of you let out the clutch barely past idle. Do you enjoy the bog? With the twin disc setup you will have horrible chatter at 1200rpm and with the a/c your looking a stalling unless you ride the clutch.

cky_bam_marg
09-08-2006, 07:32 AM
hell i use my a/c and with my non existant turbo power i usually rev to 2-2.5 and just babying it :-P, hell its worst when i have a full car of passengers thats when i just launch everywhere on my redline

KioIX
09-13-2006, 09:36 PM
i take it to 1300-1500 because of the BOV, i dont have it recirculating, i used to stall REAL easy, but now its alright. i guess im just used to it. how anyone have aproblem starting at 2nd gear with a MR?

1200-1500 like most others. From a cold soak, I usually rev it a little more for the first 1 or two starts otherwise I get nasty clutch chatter.

if you release the clutch slow enough you wont even bog your revs will stay the same and you go...my car idles at 900 or so and i juss release the clutch slowly enough so when it bites the engine compensate n it goes, no bog at all and it does go over 1k...well thats how it is for me

too many people have their panties in a bunch for me to get any position except useless postwhore. if i were a mod, i can honestly say, my performance would consist of mostly moving, locking, and banning. even now, i say anything and i get pm's of hate, open expression(usually consisting of "fk" or some version before and after every relevant word) in the thread, or people taking what i say way too personally. it's the intardnet! get over yourself!

I don't get it...whatever happenned to the brotherhood of being a member in SCE. Can't we all get along and stop bickering about a mispost/miss-post? I don't think the other member meant to step on anybodies toes in this forum! I'm sure that alot of people joined SCE to have a sense of family/brotherhood, as well as to learn and gain experience from others. Keep in mind that the subject is: "how high do you rev up before moving from a full stop?"

you also have to keep in mind that many trolls join the forum, up their post count, all in order to part-out their evos before selling them. Hey Jay, you have a very good point! You are well versed and I can tell that you're an educated person! But we all know the EVO's cannot rev 15-20k not unless you have a crazy cam duration of 350+ and a hella small sprocket gears. Maybe if the car was was a NA and had a compression of 15:1....lol.

My point is that the guy just misposted the 15-20K rpm's. I'm sure he meant 1500-2000K's. I don't even look at the tach when I take off. By sound is good enough.

My Evo IX will shudder a little bit if I don't rev high enough, especially if it's cold. You know, I don't usually look at the RPM's when shifting, so I'm not really sure, it depends on how fast I want to take off.

It will change when I get a new performance clutch installed, will be reving much higher, cuz it won't slip like the stock clutch, (Why didn't Mits give us a better clutch to start out with???)

i go by sound, and depending upon whether i'm at an incline, have the a/c on, or am loaded down with other passengers often causes for different rev launches. normally, my guess if i were to go by what is shown on my tach is at least 1500-2000. and imho this seems to be a decent range for daily driving. once again this all varies given the various circumstances.

HAHA too funny!!! Depends if it's on a hill or not. If not it's nothing just to let it go at idle. I have 71K on my stock clutch and it does slip a bit if I launch hard but not otherwise.

Robdog

I remmember being able to let the clutch out at idle when the car was new..It would roll and roll and just not stall..

Riding the clutch in first is the main culprit when it comes to killing a clutch..
I have a friend with 70k on his exedy twin and he races like a mothofocker! he even does burnout's before he lines up at the drags and autoX's frequently..

ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS PUT LOAD ON THE TRANNY AND CATCH IT BEFORE IT STALLS

SLIP THE CLUTCH THE MOMENT THE RPMS DROP FROM IDLE

A GOOD DRIVER CAN BE OFF THE THROTTLE ENTIRELY.. THE CAR WILL ACCELERATE AWAY FROM A STOP.. USING THE BRAKE AND CLUTCH

SO 1 RPM ABOVE STALLING IS THE RIGHT RPM :)

I rev just enough to prevent stalling and bogging.Â* I don't look at the tach and just go by the feel.Â* It's annoying when I "over rev" and have to slip the clutch a bit to get in gear.

I know that on FWD cars, you don't need any accelerator input at all to get in gear.Â* Just slowly release the clutch until it grabs and then the engine will compensate and slowly propel the car forward without touching the gas pedal.Â* This might work for RWD cars too but i doubt it will work with AWD trannys.Â* Of course this isn't practical for street driving, but it was interesting for me to know it's possible to get in first gear without the gas pedal on FWD cars.
