It is major cha-ching, but Ruf is one of the few names that will ALWAYS hold its weight in resale. I just can't imagine 455hp in my car. :-o

Id hold off on it Chris. 22k for a 80-100 hp upgrade is pushing it especially when you just bought the car. The small things such as wheels will cost enough as it is.

yeah but if you factor it like this we spend about on average maybe 4-5k on upgrades on a 30k which is like what a little under 20% of the value of the car and take his ride 22k is maybe 20% the value of his ride. He's good :D Do it man O0

I hear you, Sam. I won't do it this year, but Ruf recommends doing it on an engine greener than 25,000 miles. That gives me at least a couple of years. I know there are more powerful, less expensive kits out there, but Ruf is THE Porsche tuner. They are TUV certified as a manufacturer in Germany - credibility gets no stronger. I don't plan on doing much, if anything, other than the wheels (HRE C20s w/painted center spokes to match the car). This is more of an "I wish" thing - but then again, I wished for the 911 in the first place...

BTW, if you ever buy a Porsche and want the PCCB (ceramic brakes) - ORDER THEM FROM THE FACTORY!!! They are an $8,500 option up front, but they cost $17,000 if you try to do it later. :-o

Ha have you seen the catalog on ordering a porsche its thicker than a dictionary you can have the entire interior panels done in the same color of the caror carbon fiber :smitten:

If you load up a standard Carrera (not the S), it can hit $140K!!! Crazy... esp. when you consider that a new 997 twin turbo is about $137K with most good options.

I didn't pay that kind of silly money.

I'll let you know what < 10g's gets in february when my brother is done turbo'ing his M5 :D

Chris does that RUF kit preserve your factory warranty? You could always get a smaller SC pulley or larger crank pulley and run more boost. Then you might get 100HP? I wonder how they lower the compression. Head gaskets?

Chris in SD
07-21-2006, 07:01 PM
They basically rebuild your engine and Ruf warrantees their work. If I do it, it'll be in a couple of years.

tabio42
07-21-2006, 07:21 PM
Well if you get forged bits in the engine that'd be kinda worth it. But then again for $20k you can buy another car to go fast in. Then you can just cruise and look cool in your porkchop and thrash on the other car.

Decisions, decisions... Popping the 911 hood and seeing "Ruf Kompressor 3.8" is like popping an Evo's hood and seeing a real Tomei blue top...

I think the move will be to drive the 911 for a few years, then pop for a lease turn-in Audi Q7 4.2. That would be a tasty garage. Then when I buy a bigger house, I'll pick up another Evo to get buckwild. ;)

Q7 looks like vomit, if your buiying a faux SUV in that family buy a Cayenne, but seriously the FX is likely a better car especially for the money.

Chris in SD

FX is the alternative. I really like the Q7 though... it's really nice inside, plus it looks like a tank, esp. with the Sport bodykit.

hey Chris whats the curb weight on your car, and having owned it and read up on it reasonably how much weight could you pull out of it?

It's 3131 pounds (fueled, oiled, etc. - "wet weight"). I could pull the electric seats, rear seats, A/C, stereo, speakers, change to carbon decklid, etc. and probably save 300-400 pounds. However, there is ZERO chance of me stripping anything... LOL The only strippers in my life will be at Deja Vu or a nice used Evo. O0

Yeah I was thinking the easy stuff, battery driver seat, rear seats and belts, wheels, tool kit, any method of spare tire/tire inflation device the one mod i know works well fo the 996 which it will assume comes to the 997 is the gt3 straight pipes, shaves in the order of 65lbs of the ass of the car, potentially the rear speakers as well, i suppose that would get you a few more pounds and since i am not a big stereo guy it wouldnt be a forfit.

Another thought, I have also seen the center consol area repainted looked like sex on the right color car.

The only things I am thinking about doing in a weight-savings vein are to change the exhaust to TubiStyle (keeps my warranty), change the wheels (I am ordering BBS RS-GTs next week), and that's about it.

The center console painted body color is an option from the factory. If I had ordered my car, it would have been with that option, but now having driven it for a while, I would avoid it. I think the paint would get worn off where jeans and things would rub. The only thing I might change is to swap for a GT3 steering wheel (thicker and Alcantara).

Absinthe
07-24-2006, 06:56 PM
I would beware of the alcantra wheel alot of people are complainig about how fast they wear out esp. Living where its humid and consiqueently you sweat more i would imagine makes it even worse and the guys i know who are bitching are CA based.

I was unaware it was an option thats cool, I just got porsche fever again myself the wifey was looking at caymans and the dealer we were at had a real low mile 2003 996 for under 48K i was tempted to tell them to figure out the M for me and roll out with that car. But i didnt have the heart to ditch this car so quick after getting it, plus i would like to hold our for a 996 gt3 and see where those are in a year or so.

Chris in SD

Once the new GT3 comes out in August, the 996 GT3 will drop 10% overnight. You should be able to score an awesome example for $80K or so. Find one that was driven rarely by some old guy or some guy with 18 cars.

The ONLY car I could see me dumping the 997S for is a 997 GT3, but I don't see that happening.
