For all the details go to:

Registration is open now to everyone. You can prepay by PayPal to save $5. I missed the last one, but apparently the surface is pretty nice - hard packed dirt and not much in the way of rocks and whatnot. Apparently they're running all 2WD in the morning, and all AWD in the afternoon so it can just be half a day if you like.

In case someone hasn't seen it, here's the RallyX video again (footage is from Glen Helen but you get the basic idea):

Ping me with questions, I'll try to be as informative as possible although I don't know as much about this as the GH events.

SD Rally X #2 – Bigger, badder, better!

Del Mar, CA September 23, 2006

Big Fish Motorsports in conjunction with NASA Rally Sport and with
the gracious sponsorship of DCH Motorsports in Temecula, CA bring you
the long awaited return of the SD Rally X. The event takes place on
Saturday, September 23, 2006, beginning at 9:00 AM at the Del Mar
Fairgrounds training track, just inside the Solona Gate entrance.

Rally Cross is quickly becoming a very popular motor-sports
competition with a very strong presence in Southern California and is
in the midst of a huge boom following the successful X-Games Rally
Car race.

Our first event back in January was a huge success and we expect
this one to be even bigger!

So, come check us out, visitor our sponsor’s exhibits and bring a
car out to throw some dirt around. You will see everything from stock
compact/economy cars to super tuned street machines to fully prepped
rally cars getting sideways in the dirt. It’s the most fun you can
legally have in your own car and costs less than a day at the go-cart
track. There will be lots of prizes and give-aways and thanks to the
generous support of our sponsors, there will actually be CASH prizes
handed out to the winners; a real rarity in grass roots events like
this.

Interesting, but it seems really far from me (LA). So would this event have 4 runs or as many as you can get in the afternoon session?

It is a bit of a trek I guess. I go down to SD quite often cos my in-laws live down there so I'm used to the drive (straight shot down the 5 past Pendleton). According to the site, you get 4 timed runs. I don't know what their policy is as far as fun runs, maybe email the guy and see what he says.

Glen Helen would have been a much closer event for me... not to mention I know the area a bit better.

Wow thats a looong run! Close to a 3 min. Looks like a ton of fun too. I'll keep it in consideration depending on my schedule.

TanK - Yeah, I'm afraid it is where it is. Easy access though. The next ones are out in Laughlin (part of a big motorsports festival) and Johnson Valley, which is out in the boonies inland somewhere.

Isamu - Nice video. I'm told that it's the smoothest, hardest-packed rallyx there is, and it looks that way.. nice big drifts :D

I was really considering going to this but now another dilema. Its the same date as the XS Engineering garage sale...

Damnit!

Hmmmmmmmmmm. Given that the AWD classes run in the afternoon though, it might be possible to get to XS early, pick up some deals and still get to Del Mar in time for pm tech. I wonder..

Wait wait wait, so tech is open in the afternoon?? I know in Auto-x you can only tech in morning, if you miss tech no runs for you. Maybe there is a chance we could do both XS AND the rallyx... but its from Huntington Beach to Del Mar... have to give at least an hour.

yeah, there were a few casualties from the last sd rallyX, but still its a great event. the surface was awesome, unfortunately I wont be able to make it out there since im still working on my car.

I think he was talking about the sponsor, not the rallyx :)

As for the afternoon tech, yes, after the 2WD runs in the morning there will be a second tech session for any late AWD folks. Very unusual, but I confirmed it with the organiser and one of the guys who will be doing tech. What time it is will depend on how long the 2WD classes run, but there should be enough time to stop by XS and still make it.

Hope to see some of you guys down there anyway.

Is this event suitable for first time track drivers?? Id love to see what these Ra-1s can do on a track O0

Uhhhh..... this is an "offroad" type event. You will probably do bad on RA-1's and possibly damage them if theres rocks or pebbles on the course. RA-1s are more suitable toward pavement-like surfaces....
