i dont know how dumb of a question this is but i figured socal evo was the place to ask because we all deal with 91 octane. my question is, do u guys recommened any 1 type of gas over another. for example. ive heard that 76 is recommended over others. ive also heard good things about shell. im not sure if there really is a diff or if they are all the same crap. the reason im asking is because im going to get my car tuned soon and i want to fill it with the best gas. let me know what u guys think

I was going to ask the same question, I always use chevron I thought that some 76 were privately owned and some just used that name but not the fuel? I've seen some 76 gas stations with the Unlimited Oil trucks as their suppliers. I know that there is a 92oct in the valley off the 5 but i dont remember the exit.

alfred from tt was telling us that the bigger 76 gas stations still offer 92 oct as opposed to 91 (if ur old enough, u'll remember that back in the 80's 76 was the only station in socal that offered 92 instead of 91). he say's that they still offer it disguised as 91 octane. i do know that MR Dans' car was knocking like hell during his tune w/ his extra pisstaney chevron gas. i had 76 in mine, and the other guy's had shell w/out any knocking issues. by the way i only fill my car w/ 76. just my $.02.

Ive always ran 76 in my car until I maxed out my gas card so I started putting chevron in and I started throwing lean codes, then I switch back to 76 no more lean codes.

if you do a search there is a write up on this question.. but here is the simple and sweet version...

76 best bang for performance..
chevron.. best bang for a long trip.. this gas with our cars.. runs longer.. but you will notice a little sluggish response from the car...

i user 76 with a mix of 100 on the weekends... ;)

and chevron.. during the week.. so much traffic.. you wont have a chance to really race too many people...

i heard 76 is now owned by a british petrolium company . this happened recently. i wonder if they are still as good or if they use diff gas now.

i've used 76 in the past on other cars, but currently pump Chevron 91. Gas seems to last alot longer. I'm getting about 250miles on a full tank. Haven't tried anything else in my EVO so cant say how 76 would performe. And never even thought of using Shell

76 primarily, Chevron if I have too, and Shell if there's no other gas station around and i'm on empty. Anything else is too much of a craps shoot to risk my car on.

76 and Chevron. Chevron seems to give me more mileage but I heard 76 might feel a little stronger.

chevron 91 + VP 100 to mix 93 octane seems to give me the most miles...and it feels stronger than 91 O0
