It has nothing to do with the time of the year.

The police have stepped up their "Street Racer Awareness." Thank you FF, 2F2F and all the other street racing movies.

The pricing on the tickets can or can not be expensive. The consequences can and can not be severe. Sometime you can get away with a fix it ticket which is ten dollars. Sometimes it's a trip to the ref which means EVERYTHING is going back to stock. Sometimes is an impound and heavy fine. Sometimes you can get a 2K fine, but have everything dismissed if you correct everything. It depends on the cop and city you decide to break the law in.

There's seldom any rhyme or reason to it. It's mostly dependant on the cop and the victims (that's you) demeanor.

And don't let Neil hear about this. He has no love for catless cars.

/\ /\ Read up /\ /\

It doesn't matter if they routinely check or not. Or if you have a fake cat or not.
Do you really want to take the risk of getting caught for the 10-15WHP gain?
Note: That's a gain you will likely only use on a track or Friday Night. So why not just swap out when you KNOW you're going to use it. It's just 4 bolts....

to answer the question. in cali, its not legal to touch anything before the cat, hence why some catbacks are legal. the downpipe and hi flow cat/test pipe are "for off road purpose only".

a lot of ppl run with the hi flow cat because it doesnt throw a CEL or that nasty sulfur smell. and the hefty ticket of getting caught without a cat is always a possibility.
