TAKE NOTE RIGHT NOW THAT THESE SPECIFIC WIRING INSTRUCTIONS ARE FOR 05 MR cars (hte 05 gsrs did not have foglights). if you do this with an 03-04 car it will turn on the WINDSHIELD WIPERS and possibly blow some fuses!!!!

i am still working on getting a how to for the 03-04.

Basically you take a thin wire, I used 24 gauge, stuff one end of it on the bottom right corner connector of the foglight relay, and stuff the other end of it into the 6th hole from the left on the bottom row of the headlight relay box connector.

These pics show you the detail:

This mod makes your foglights come on with the headlights.

Okay I checked. The foglights come on with the parking lights, they are on with the brights too.

There are several ways to accomplish the same thing. I just chose the no cutting, no soldering, no splicing method. Takes about 40 seconds to do. I just timed myself...

does this work for the 06's ... ? keep in mind that some of the wiring isn't the same as the 05's... as i came to find out by some one who swapped out lights (non hids 05 with the IX's) some of the sockets weren't the same... can more have been change ?

uhm... do they come with fog lights?

uhm... do they come with fog lights?

i was shocked that some of the wiring had change (from year to year) i know youre referring to things from factory equipt with fogs... but do you know if anything changed between years ., notice why i asked...

well then the above instructions are only for 05s

Don't you mean "keep foglights on at the same time as high beams?"

trinydex
11-12-2006, 10:31 PM
no... this will turn them on and off in conjuction with the low beams it will also keep them on when the high beams are on however.

my foglights stay on with the low beams from the factory. Do you mean to title it "How to keep your foglights on when you use only parking lights or high beams"?

trinydex
11-12-2006, 11:05 PM
notice... i said turn them ON AND OFF with the low beams... they'll be forever connected. this also conveniently disables the high beam foglight kill function... but i meant what i said. since it'd gonna make you happy i'll change the title.

the hard way

I did this on my IX to where when I turn on JUST MY PARKING LIGHTS. I did this with no complications to the wiring or anything else. I will say though, that getting into the area where the main plug is for the headlight assembly was a little tricky. But anyways, here is the way I did and if you have any questions, feel free to pm me.

TOOLS REQUIRED:
*Pliers
*Electrical Crimpers
*Electrical Tape or Shrink Tubing (if you know what and how to use it)
*Wire T-Taps (2) and MALE spade connectors (2) T-Taps w/info (http://multimedia.mmm.com/mws/mediawebserver.dyn?6666660Zjcf6lVs6EVs666e17COrrrr Q-")
*In-Line Fuse (can be found at local auto-parts store along with t-taps)
*Assortment of MINI spade fuses and regular fuses (depending on type of in-line fuse you buy)
*Approx 12" of 18 guage wire

PROCEDURE:

1. Open your hood and locate the LEFT (drivers) headlight assembly. Take notice to where your FOG LIGHT BULB and connector are. They should be all the way on your left looking down into the engine. This is one connector you will be using. http://forums.evolutionm.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=101137&stc=1&d=1168621383

2. Next locate the MAIN HARNESS PLUG that plugs into the back of the headlight assembly. You will have to cut some of the protective plastic off in order to access the proper wire. http://forums.evolutionm.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=101139&stc=1&d=1168622866

3. The first thing that we will be working with is the FOG LIGHT plug. You will notice that there are 2 wires coming from it (black & red). We will be using the RED wire for this. Take one of your wire taps and pliers and squeeze the tap onto the RED wire. Make sure that you squeeze pretty hard to ensure that the wire has been tapped. http://forums.evolutionm.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=101141&stc=1&d=1168622996

4. Next we will be locating the wire that we will be tapping into on the MAIN HEADLIGHT HARNESS. It is a GREEN/YELLOW wire on the top left of the harness as you are looking DOWN into the engine bay. This is where getting a pair of pliers, your hand, and the t-tap all in that little space a pain in the butt. Locate the GREEN/YELLOW wire and install a t-tap onto that wire. http://forums.evolutionm.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=101142&stc=1&d=1168623185

5. After you have the 2 t-taps installed on the RED wire on the fog light harness and the GREEN/YELLOW wire on the main harness, we will assemble the connecting wire that holds the in-line fuse. Take your 12" piece of wire and put your in-line fuse in there (preferrably the middle but whereever you would like is fine). Then take the 2 MALE spade connectors and but them on each end of the wire. This is where the ELECTRICAL TAPE/SHRINK TUBING comes into play. Ensure that if you are using SHRINK TUBING, you put it on BEFORE you crimp the connectors. http://forums.evolutionm.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=101143&stc=1&d=1168623469

6. Now we will be replacing one of the original fuses in the fuse box in the engine bay. This is the box right by the battery. This is where the MINI SPADE FUSE come in. I can only describe which fuse you will be replacing by picture. So here it is. http://new.photos.yahoo.com/jmroo17/album/576460762384253925/photo/294928804158830473/11

7. Next install that connecting wire between the 2 t-taps by just inserting them. Make sure that you have them securily pushed in.

8. Lastly, install a 10 amp fuse in your in-line fuse. Make sure that all connections are tight and no bare metal is visible or touching anything.

9. Turn on your parking lights and make sure they work. If they don't at first, try pushing your fog light switch. I think that is what I had to do to mine the first time. From then on out, your fog lights should come on WHENEVER YOU TURN ON YOUR PARKING LIGHTS.

I hope this helps everybody out and if you have any other questions/comments, feel free to pm me.

Tired of only being able to turn the fog lights on with the low beams?Â* The following modification I performed on my 04 Evo piggybacks the stock fog lamp system without cutting any wires and allows the fog lamps to work independently of the low beams.Â*

This modification requires building a small simple circuit with parts availible at your local RadioShack.Â* The circuit is then installed under the dash with 4 simple wire hookups.

Note: This circuit can be switched on and off repeatedly, however once switched off, there is a 2 second delay before you can switch it back on as the capacitors discharge.

The Circuit

Parts needed:

1 - BC337 or similar small-signal NPN
1 - IRF530 n-channel MOSFET
1 - D1 1N4001 silicon diode
1 - R1 1M 0.25W
1 - R2 4.7M 0.25W
1 - R3 10k 0.25W
1 - R4 330k 0.25W
1 - C1 220nF ceramic disc, polyester or mylar film
1 - C2 100nF ceramic disc, polyester or mylar film
2 - 12v relays
Misc Wiring
Project Box

Once you have aquired the parts build the following circit:

http://www.socalevo.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10991/HOW%20TO%20turn%20foglights%20on%20and%20off%20at% 20the%20same%20time%20as%20headlights%20highbeams% 20too%2007.jpg

Note: when wires intersect WITHOUT a dot there is no connection.

There are 4 external connections to this circuit.Â* One connection to ground, One to the fog lamp relay's ground, one to the fog lamp switch and one to a 12v power source (parking lamps, ignition.... this is the power source that will determine when you can switch on your fogs)

Here is my completed circuit installed into a small project box

http://www.socalevo.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10991/HOW%20TO%20turn%20foglights%20on%20and%20off%20at% 20the%20same%20time%20as%20headlights%20highbeams% 20too%2008.jpg

Installation

1) Find a suitable location under the dash to mount the box

2) Connect your ground to a chasis ground

3) Remove the plastic facia from in front of the speedo to access the back of the fog lamp switch

4) Tap into the top wire of the switch - this wire sees ground when the switch is depressed

http://www.socalevo.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10991/HOW%20TO%20turn%20foglights%20on%20and%20off%20at% 20the%20same%20time%20as%20headlights%20highbeams% 20too%2010.jpg

5) Connect your 12v source wire to a wire that has 12v when the ignition is on.Â* This will keep you from leaving the fog lamps on when you turn the key off.Â* You could also connect this wire to the parking lamp power wire or the dash lights.Â* This circuit is VERY low current and will not effect any of the existing electronics.

6) Run the wire labeled "to parking lamp relay" into the engine compartment to the fuse box on the drivers side.Â* The relay pointed to in the picture is the fog lamp relay:

http://www.socalevo.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10991/HOW%20TO%20turn%20foglights%20on%20and%20off%20at% 20the%20same%20time%20as%20headlights%20highbeams% 20too%2011.jpg

7) To turn the lights on we need to show this relay ground.Â* The contact pointed to is the contact we want our wire connected to.Â* As can be seen in the second picture below here I soldered my wire straight to the relay pin that rests in that contact.

http://www.socalevo.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10991/HOW%20TO%20turn%20foglights%20on%20and%20off%20at% 20the%20same%20time%20as%20headlights%20highbeams% 20too%2011.jpg

http://www.socalevo.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10991/HOW%20TO%20turn%20foglights%20on%20and%20off%20at% 20the%20same%20time%20as%20headlights%20highbeams% 20too%2013.jpg

8) Reinstall the relay:

http://www.socalevo.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10991/HOW%20TO%20turn%20foglights%20on%20and%20off%20at% 20the%20same%20time%20as%20headlights%20highbeams% 20too%2014.jpg

9) Reassemble your dash and pat yourself on the back, its done!

You now have fog lamps that work when YOU want them to work

since you deleted my question.. i'll just post the informative answer.

"High beams direct light up into the fog, making it difficult for you to see. Low beams direct light down onto the road and help other drivers to see you. "

so its just a bling mod and a way for cops to pick you out of a crowd right?

no... it's a good way to get full light coverage when you're driving through canyons, up through mountains to your snow trip or other such otherwise potentially hazard situations where lighting is limited.
