It was super bowl sunday almost 3 years ago when I 1st got my evo :smitten: I did some bolt on stuff in the 1st couple weeks and it was fast as hell.Â* My buddy came over and said I have got to get a ride in that sports car.Â* He brought his son with him who was about 6.Â* I did a launch from a stop sign around the corner that made everyone feel (including me) like we had launched the space shuttle...I should have stopped there.

Â* I just did a few 0-70 runs with no traffic at all on the open 4 lane road.(afterall I had a 6 yr old in the car) I saw a cop going the other way but by the time I passed him I was going the speed limit and he played it very cool, he didn't even look at me when we passed.Â* He was shooting radar the whole time.Â* I came to a stop light and decided to do one last 0-70 run.Â* The cop was behind me the whole time! After I got to 70 and backed off I noticed the cop about 10 cars back with his lights on.Â* He pulled me over, I tried to talk my way out of it I told him I was just giving my buddy a ride in my new car and didn't realize how fast the car would get over 60 mph. He didn't buy it and ran my spottless driving record and said if I didn't have a spottless record he would impound the car and give me a reckless driving tickett.Â* I got a speeding ticket instead for exceeding 65 on a public street.Â* (the first time it was 66 in a 45 the next time it was 69 in a 45)Â* After he issued the tickett and told me he could take me to jail he said as he was walking away nice car though.

I wanted to hide this from my wife and just take care of it...when we got home my buddies kid said to my wife "the police man said don't go fast anymore"Â* I got popped 2x that day.

I bought a valentine one the next week with my superbowl bet earnings.

A good reason for owning a radar detector is if you ever plan on going out to Willow Springs. As anyone that has made that drive can contest, CHP all over the 14 fwy. Get one for that drive, not to mention Vegas runs. LOL...

That was a terrible reason to own a radar detector! You're lucky the cop didn't get you for endangering a minor. And how do you know the cop was "shooting radar the whole time" unless you already had a radar detector? Just realize you took a gamble and lost.

Â*

Look dude, as I said there was not a car on the road (on my side) All I did was run 1st and 2nd gear, thats it! Â*I then shifted it into 3rd and coasted to 45 mph! Â*I am not a jackass! Â*If there is no traffic and no cars to pull in front of me when I did it, how is that any different from doing the same speed on a freeway? Â*FYI the cop told me he was shooting radar the whole time.

Its nothing against you. We've all had our fun on the street. But that doesn't change the fact that you were taking a chance and the coin flipped against you. I say its a terrible reason for having a radar detector becuase if you were truly going 70 mph on a street, the radar detector would not have helped you. And you continued to press your luck even though you were on notice that there might be a chance that law enforcement was in the area.

Once again, its nothing against you personally. I just think we need to send the right message to others that may be reading this info.

I understand, but maybe you don't know how radar detectors work, here is how: If your detector detects that radar is being shot, you slow down unless you are an idiot. If I had a detector I could have slowed down to zero in about 150'...so down to 45 from 70 in about 50' or 2 seconds, thus I would have not received a tickett. Or (and you'll love this) I could have turned off on to a side street and ditched the cop!!!!!! I think we are all adults and we can make our own decision. I don't think because someone read this post, they are going to strap a 7 year old in their cars and go crazy. No offence taken.

if your radar detector goes off doesnt the cop already know your speed by then?

if the cop was behind you he'll see your brake lights and wonder why you're braking when there's nobody around.

For crissakes it was a quick joyride. WTF. Everyone is so PC and gets their rectum all super tight when anything remotely fun or interesting comes up for kids. My Dad used to do stuff with me when I was that age that would make your heads ASPLODE if this gets your spinchters all clenched up and your eyes all bug eyed. And I loved every minute of it and I remember all that stuff fondly, and I hope that someday when I get a son, I will do the same stuff... I really think society has molly coddled our children to the point where they have to go outside Â*dressed in full armor before they do anything.

And lets not even start on how gay our artificially low speed limits are.

I would love to follow you and see what skeletons are in your closet, see what speed limits you don't break, what lives you don't endanger by taking your eyes off the road to change the radio station, what street races you aviod by pulling your car over, how many margaritas or beers you have and try to make it home...and on and on. check yoself befo you wreck yoself. FYI I would love to see you try to put me to death.LOL

OK smart guys, by this time I had a personal dynoflash from BIG AL and had my rev limiter raised to 7900, now do the math again. Then figure in after the 2nd gear shift my momentum and WTF I'm going 70! whhheeeeewwwwwwww

^^^+1 I was going to post this same sentiment yesterday when I read the flaming.Â* My dad raced BB funny cars and before that he raced various vehicles in sand drags.Â* Despite that he was the slowest damn driver on the road even when I asked him to "drive fast like the races Dad"Â* Every once in a while on a clear road, with little warning, he would get that glint in his eyes, a smile on his face and he would launch us.Â* He is gone now and I can honestly say that these are some of my fondest memories of time spent with him...other than being able to ride back in the funny car after a run...Damn I was the coolest 7 year old in the world being pulled back up the track by that Dually!!! This is a pretty harmless run if you ask me, going again after you saw the cop was dumb yes, but i just love how everyone flames you yet theres no way that those flamers havent done the exact same things in their evos before. As far as radar detectors go, valentine one is an excellent choice probably the best, currently i have the escort x50 and it is very good as well. Those are the only two I would recommend to you. And by the way my radar detector pics up radar signals WAYYYYYY before a cop could ever get a good read on my speed. On a flat rd with no obstacles blocking radar waves, i can pick up signals about a mile away before i can ever see them coming down the other side of the freeway, and if they're from behind and you need to brake, you take the car out of gear and give a nice gradual pull on the ebrake... no brake lights that way! Basically you dont really wanna drive like this on the street guys that's granted, but we all like to give the evo a rip sometimes as long as its nice and open on the road. its just when you do it repeatedly light after light, turn after turn, then you are asking for trouble.

Yes, I agree with your comments on the radar detector and my driving adventure. One guy said I should be put to death for doing what everyone has done. As for the radar detector, the x50 is sweet. The reason I like the valentine one is the directional arrows. They are a great help.

I also own the Valentine1 model. Its mounted near my roof to the right of my rearview mirror. I also have the extra attachment located above my steering wheel infront of guage cluster which makes it easier to see and adjust volumes. I reccomend Valentine1.
