3k and easy on the throttle to get there...i see the boost gauge creep into boost if you have lead foot.

2500 when cold and 3k when driving.

3500 is where you have max boost...i hope your foot is really light on the gas while it's getting there....unless your idea of normal driving is fast.

i hit max boost at 3400rpm 25 psi i get significant boost at 3200ish as of datalogs last night

depends... if you get a big turbo you start realizing that shifting too low puts a bog on your motor. but then if you have a big turbo you can afford (mileage wise) to shift a little higher.

around 2700 rpm, and 4th -5th upshift at around 3000rpm.

but in socal driving like this will result in people tailling you etc, so it really depends :)

True man, everytime when I try to drive safe and slow... people start tailing you. And if you drive fast people.... wait at Socal 90% of time you cant drive fast specially at my area ...

Driving is not much more fun lately.

I learned from blaze that I should shift at 900rpm's under normal driving. So that's what I do. O0

i dont hit max boost until like 3500 (20psi). and with a big turbo and big cams, it'll bog off the line if you dont give it at least 2.5k rpm and slip it off the line. damn bogging sucks.

i usually shift out around 3k - 4k. depending on how many people are in the car, generally.

interesting, i shifted at 3k-3.5k too but it didn't reach the boost yet unless i really step on the gas. Normally, I just step on the gas lightly and bring RPM up to 3k, then upshift (or 3.5k at 4th to 5th, 5th to 6th). And under normal driving, it rarely get into boost zone of the gauge.

Anyone know for sure what's the best way to save fuel when taking into account bogging the motor down on low rpm shift or getting to a moderate rpm with maybe bit higher throttle, or light throttle to a bit higher rpm? Just wondering what people's thoughts\opinions\expertise is on the matter. My brother and I are on two ends of the spectrum.

thisxguy
01-18-2007, 11:20 PM
light throttle to higher rpm

i used to shift at 2k! now i shift anywhere between 2.5-3k rpm and i usually get 20-22mpg

Mister Evo

Nice, thanks, this was always my way of driving, my brother always shifts way too low.

thisxguy
01-18-2007, 11:46 PM
when i posted that i shifted at 2k until i reach the freeway, people told me that i'd get crappier mpg and it's bad for the engine since it boggs. but when i drove like that i didnt get it to bog...practice made somewher perfect O0

Mister Evo
01-18-2007, 11:50 PM
I bet you can get it to shift lower than that and not bog but you'd probably also be wearing out the clutch sooner. Well, at least that's what I think.

thisxguy
01-18-2007, 11:55 PM
i can shift it lower than 2k without bogging :P

dont know about the cluth though...maybe it just wears it out a little more. but im not sure

mister thura
01-19-2007, 09:39 PM
unless your popping the cluch, grinding the gear in, and causing hell with it. i don't think you can damage the tranny with 2k shifting. it'll probably put wear on the engine though

Mister Evo
01-20-2007, 02:39 AM
I don't think it's so much the tranny as it is the clutch. I had a buddy with a 240 that always left the clutch in way too long taking off from a stop and he had to replace a new clutch after about a year. According to him he was babying it, but he was a giant football player playing college ball, I never had the heart (balls) to tell him he didn't know how to drive.

When does boosting start?

Does it depend on me pressing the gas harder or is there a particular rpm point?

RPD_FKTARD

~3k rpm

a bit of both...if u're around 3000rpm already boost will come on quick if u give throttle. if u're at 2000rpm and u step on it it'll take a bit of time for the boost to build...

get a boost gauge and u'll see what's going on :)
