I wasn't even speeding at all, just teh car's loud going up hill.. and my hks bov goin off... anyways.. I was cited for:

CVC 27151 AMPLIFIED EXHAUST

i thought you can have a modified exhaust as long as it's under 95 decibels? He told me otherwise.. can anyone clarify?

i hear its street legal if its under 93.. but even still, a cop can still issue you a ticket for an exhaust even if its "street legal"

some cities have zero tolerance for modified exhaust and some cops just dont give a rats ass.

is there a way I can contest this in court so I don't have to pay the fine or fix it?

what area did this happen at?

and what exhaust setup you got?

if your bov is VTA then consider yourself lucky you didn't get written up for other tickets

well if you are going to fight this in court you will have to show the judge proof that it's legal by having a certified ref sign a paper...that usually requires a small fee + time you waste in court

you'll also want a dB reading to show that it's under the legal requirements.

i say throw your stock on and get the ticket signed off. you'll waste less time that way, along with 15 bucks or whatever.

yo RJ
he needs to go CHP office get it signed off and go to court pay couple of hundred for the fine but 15 dollars was earlier at the CHP.
i hope this makes sense since he would still need to pay for the fine even tho he got it signed off...........not 100% i think tho because i got several exhaust tickets

That sucks. It's wierd how cars get busted for a making a lil noise with an aftermarket exhaust....BUT if you roll on a Harley...cops are like...hey....nice bike.

meh..there's a thread about that. bikes are allowed to since there is NO regulation. it would be best for them to be loud especially if they're splitting lanes...car drivers would hear them

hm...thats a ticket ticket huh...it's not a fix it ticket?

Jut get it checked if its under 95 decibles go to a CHP station or a Sheriff's station, you will be legal since this is a state law that you are allowed up to 95 decibles.

CVC 27151. (a) No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the motor of the vehicle so that the vehicle is not in compliance with the provisions of Section 27150 or exceeds the noise limits established for the type of vehicle in Article 2.5 (commencing with Section 27200). No person shall operate a motor vehicle with an exhaust system so modified.

(b) For the purposes of exhaust systems installed on motor vehicles with a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating of less than 6,000 pounds, other than motorcycles, a sound level of 95 dbA or less, when tested in accordance with Society of Automotive Engineers Standard J1169 May 1998, complies with this section. Motor vehicle exhaust systems or parts thereof include, but are not limited to, nonoriginal exhaust equipment.

Amended Sec. 10, Ch. 92, Stats. 2001. Effective January 1, 2002.

I had a bike and in california there is an emissions law. The proof is this....the Honda 600RR has 2 versions. The California version with a cat and the regular which has no cat. Also bike CAN be knocked for the same 95db law that cars can.

IF you are sure your exhuast is under 95db can't you get a ref to right you some letter so that if this were to happen agian you can just show the cop the letter from the ref?

Yes but the cop will claim you changed exhausts or some such BS. If cops were as vigilant against car/motorcycle theives as they are on getting exhaust/tint tickets there would be a lot less thefts.

at that point you can again go to the ref then file a complaint with the police department and demanding that the officer is repremanded as you showed him proof of compliance yet he still ticketed you.

There is emission laws for bikes... but the 95db law that is enforced on cars is different than bikes. The law specifically says "does not include motorcycles" i've posted up the V.C. before.

You said it yourself... there is 2 versions of the bike... they have 2 different EMISSION standards. Noise and emissions are 2 seperate things....

Bikes dont fall under the 95 db law which is why it says except motorcycles...

Section 27200, the following noise limits shall apply to any motorcycle other than a motor - driven cycle, manufactured:
after 1969 but before 1973-88dba
after 1972 but before 1975-86dba
after 1974 but before 1986-83dba
after 1985 is 80dba...

but this is the good ole boys law... they dont pull over bikes or raised trucks... just us that are a threat to society cause we are faster than them.

^ ha ha

I had my own little exhaust scare today. cop followed me for a long ass time, then drove up beside me and motioned for me to roll down my window. when I did he said "keep it safe" then turned right and I didn't follow.

The 600rr most likely didn't have a CAT but a charcoal canister and the tank probably vented back into the exhaust and not the air

Aren't fix it tickets non-correctable now? I think American Choppers are exempt from noise pollution.
