I went with a Compustar alarm with the remote start option. It also has a built in turbotimer so it won't interfere.

I have a 2way alarm from python. (mother company is DEI, same as viper and clifford). The place I went to doesn't bypass stick shift for everyone, they have to ask you a few q's and see if they can trust you, lol.

I have autostart and I love it. I start my car 5 mins before I actually get in it. I never had an incident where I put it in gear and try to start it in the year I've had it.

The only purpose I see fit for remote start is in a very cold climate where you need to warm up the car for a long time before you can go. In SoCal I don't think it gets that cold ... That's my opinion though, just remember to keep it out of gear O0

i remember there was an thread argued abt this .... which if i remember correctly, the conclusion was - u'll have a better chance to get ur car stolen when u having remote start....because u'll need to disable the immobilizer....

im not sure tho

not true... you do not necessarily have to deactivate the immobilizer unit... you will have to bypass it to a certain extent to allow your unit to start up

i got the viper 791 xv. i kno i can just connect.... im prettty sure one wire to have the remote start. the alarm is setup as 1min for the tt. but i know if you rent or go to a place that installs alarms, they use a tool. i believe its called a bit writer to set it. ive read on the viper manual that it can either be set to 1min 3 min or 5min.

I have a 5 year old Clifford w/ remote start. Still works flawlessly! I warm up my car every day before I hop in it.

And yes, if you have it in gear, w/ the E-brake on, and remote start it, then it will just stall out... I had some1 working on my car, park it, and leave it in gear...
Thank God he pulled the E-brake!
I never leave it in gear, unless on a slope!

I have the Compustar Pro P2WSS-AS w/ remote start and works quite well, it also included a turbo timer. As for leaving it in gear, with this alarm you cannot do that. You would have to have the car engaged in "Reservation mode" (before you turn off the ignition pop it into neutral, let off brake, & pull ebrake) in order to be able to remote start. Its a safety thing. I love it tho. O0

I have had the Directed Remote Start alarm on my car for almost 5 years now....works like a charm!

I have a switch on the clutch pedal ground cable that I use as a safety when I leave the car in gear.

FYI for those of you thinking of getting a compustar. Firstech is based in Singapore... their idea of winter is very different then ours. Compustar fails when it gets really cold. Viper is better, however the instructions for the turbo timer in the manual are incorrect, it's an 8 step process and a huge pain. Best starter I have ever worked with has to be Autostart (also DEI product). Based in montreal, good starter and turbo timer is easier to use. However I've been noticing that the Bypass module should be a higher concern. Mainly it'll fail before the starter does. Xpresskits/Bypasskits seems to work well enough, Idatalink again fails in cold weather, and anything DEI is gold in my books. However keep in mind, if you don't NEED a starter, don't get one. Finding a car with a car starter is the easiest way to "hot wire" it.

While I had remote start in a few of my other cars- I did not have it when I owned my evo ... I was always afraid of rolling around with my keys in my pocket and having the car start; or my kids getting a hold of my keys lol ...

Funny you mentioned that, I have accidentally activated it a few times trying to deactivate my alarm.

I installed one for my brother in his focus which is a stick shift. One day he dropped it off at my shop to have some work done and my boss moved it out and parked it. Well i gave him back his keys not knowing my boss left it in gear. He tried to remote start it and it crashed into the side of the building.

I have an remote start and you need to bypass the clutch and good thing about it is you don't need turbo timer since it has a built in. I have Viper 5901 and has 1 mile range.
