If you look @ the engine- its the same. Although it'll be aluminum and pushing over 300hp.
Layout wise I mean its the same- intake manifold up top, exhaust manifold on the front- UICP down ...

Unlike the 2008 Lancers you can see its reversed .... Interesting ...

i wonder how much of that car their going to water-down for the states..

kimletrim
01-08-2007, 11:50 AM
But the UICP is now coming from the other side of the intercooler and the radiator hose is to the right of the UICP.

I like the layout, even though it is not as clean as the 4G63, because it moves the engine a little further back of the front axle which in turn improves weight distribution.

I love it! So much better then the pics I have seen thus far. I think the brakes will be cross drilled. The last evolution of the brakes was to move to a Brembo setup. Why not include cross drilled? The are better for cooling than blanks. I would be interested to see if they are two piece rotors.

The turbo looks to be by the firewall and intake manifold looks to be in front. Take a closer look. Right by the dip stick is the map sensor that would be on a intake manifold. Also the smaller IC hose (it would be smaller coming off the compressor housing) is towards the back of the bay.

worried about the styling or the performance? i wouldn't worry about the styling too much, since this prototype is based off of the production lancer. i think the interior may not be final, and the wheels and brake rotors like kimletrim said may not make it either, but overall the car looks pretty good, much better than the concept X. it has more of an "Evo" flavor to it now. the engine may not be the 4G63, but i guess we'd have to drive one to see how it feels...i doubt mitsubishi would f**k up their flagship car.

Great Write-Up on WoRKS Home Page!

"...Super-sweet! As a result, the launch at 1:55pm today was one of the most well attended press conferences of the entire Auto Show. Where most press conferences seemed to thin out midway through their presentations, the Mitsubishi Motors launch gained momentum and all attendees rushed the Lancer and Prototype X as soon as they could. The energy was electric and very positive for hours after the presentation. We think this optimism will last for years with the "new" Mitsubishi."Â* WoRKS

Thank our federal gov't for part of that. All cars for 2007 and on must have side airbags available, and I think side curtain bags as well. That's why we also get no 2007 Evo IX's. I know that stuff doesn't tally up to 200lbs, but it's a good chunk of it.

All of that crap is for the posers...that's right...posers. Sorry Neil, I know you love your fully equiped go fast cars hehehehehe. Just to clarify. Yes, I do like cruise control, but if it even adds one pound of weight to the car I'd be surprised. As far as the rest of it. Sure make some available options but let us have the go-fast stripper model also. I'd be nice if they didn't group all of the options together this time as a take it or leave it package.

well as much as people are whining about the 'cushy' nature of the the evo... that was the intent of mitsu... to improve performance and yet push the evo into m3 market by adding more features like paddle-shift/cruise etc.

i bet they'll keep the RS versions for us hungry track nuts. MR can go head to head w/ audi TT's, m3's, boxsters in not just performance numbers but also creature comfort

A) The Rockford is an option, not standard B)You could still upgrade the speakers if you got the Rockford, although I've heard the this stereo and it rocks C) If you get the standard radio it'll likely have a different and possibly replaceable face to allow you to go aftermarket.

And even though I understand where the 200lbs comes from, it doesn't change the fact that it's there. Â*I like having all the interior goodies as options, I like the fact that you can have climate control, cruise, etc. Â*I like that the new engine has potential, but I do not like that I will have to wait for all the aftermarket manufacturers to make the parts for it. Â*The good thing is that by the time there are enough AM parts to make this worth buying, Mitsu will have worked out the 1st gen bugs on this totally new design.

If you look at some of the press release pics closer, you can actually see the production version. Some of the pics are the prototype and some are production. You can tell by the type of headlights, smaller wheels and visible intercooler piping. Check out the ones of the regular lancer and "prototype" together. That one is for sure the production model. Looks like they slipped a little in the press material....

Exactly, people are so unrealistic about this stuff.

So true.

I really don't care too much about the weight that it ships at to be honest. As long as it is balanced properly and maintains its handling edge (or gets better in that dept.), who cares if it weighs a lot. I'd be getting a strippy model anyway. Curtain airbags and a few other mandatory safety upgrades are going to be the main contributors to the extra weight. Like I said, I don't give a sh@t if the mandatory features add the weight...there's no way around that, but I don't want all the leather clad, nav+million watt system, 27 speakers, power seats, cruise control, automatic felatio dispenser, blow-up co-pilot bs. Anyone else here think the rear seat head rests in he current SSL package are about the most useless addition to an EVO ever imagined? That's the kind of thing I want them to avoid. Make a version for all the 50 year olds to have fun during their midlife crises, but make a strippy version (that still has power windows and locks) that has a clutch pedal for those of us who are still purists. You know, all 5 of us.

I agree with all of that, except I want NAV. After having dealt with some crappy navigators (passenger seat drivers) that dont understand how a Thomas Guide works, I want something I can program for that now and check for traffic ahead. Probably add in sattelite radio because Clear channel has taken everything over and it sucks. This is for a DD for me and the car I use on my trips.

I will probably be getting GPS/Nav units for my bikes too. Maps are an even bigger pain in the ass on a motorcycle....
