Hey guys whats up, Ive been noticing that my radar detector goes constantly goes crazy when Im driving in either direction between the H St. and the Main St./Plaza Ave. exits in Natl. City/Chula Vista. Has anyone else had the same problem? Im assuming it has something to do with the naval ships that are less than a mile away, they also use radar dont they? thanks.

depends on which band radar is going off, i usually ignore the K and X band. Â*But i have noticed that the little stations that are showing you what speed you are going, lately they have been the KA band radar.

like bash said, it depends on the bands,,,i always get the K and X that dont matter, and even sometimes the laser is a false read for something other than the highway patrol..the KA is always them trying to get me...what detector do u guys have? effective?

Hey:Â* Have you guys heard of the M20 X-TREME from www.blinderxtreme.com ?

I saw them at SEMA this past year.

Basically, it's a Laser Jammer/ Dector that doesn't throw "error codes" on the officer's detector- hidding the fact that a Dector/ Jammer is in use.

I wonder how it is?

I have a Valentine-1. I never get hassled but then again ive never been pulled over... I think my radar is pretty effective, sometimes its annoying tho, goes off when it shouldnt. I think the auto-doors like at vons sets it off if you are close to them.

I have Beltronics! it works and its saved a couple times....one time at work I was helping this dude and he asked me about my radar detector, does it work? u know stuff like that. I told him that yea it was a helpful gizmo....then later he says, "im a CHP and I never have my radar gun on the HW I usually just pace them, then i'll turn on my radar gun" this was after I had tld him all my mods, but he was cool about it. He was an enthusiast also...

You can disable X band in SoCal. Cops here don't use it. K band is very much in use by the cops, but also a lot of door openers. Ka is always a cop, drone, or speed sign (unless you use a V1 which falses and ghosts Ka).

Escort has a new radar detector coming out very soon that should all but eliminate known falses, the Passport 9500i. It's GPS enabled and will allow you to mark known false alerts, red light camera's, speed traps, etc. It can be used as a digital speedo too. I posted about it here:

Check out radardetector.net for all the radar detector, jammer and countermeasure info you could ever want.

They might not use X band, but a few times it has given me the "heads up"

I want to say around 5 times it has gone from x-1 to x-2 to x-3 (closer i got to a cop w/ radar) then BAM KA-2 *beep*(with the cop on the side of the freeway)...

So sometimes it kinda has warn me from FAR away...

But thats only 5 times out of 100 times X band has gone off...

i know some stores that have the auto doors in the front give out KA band frequency, because everytime i pass by target (and im on the freeway) it goes off...

I have a cobra..its ok i guess lol

Having a Cobra is practically worse than having nothing at all. Plus you set off the Ka alert of every V1 owner within 1000 feet.

*************

X band does not turn in to Ka band. That's not how it works at all. You are just picking up X falses, which are everywhere. Cops don't use X in California period. There are also no Ka band door openers. They are X and K only.

You can disable POP3 too because there have been no POP3 guns sold in California and therefore it's not in use.

If you want to leave X and POP3 enabled, more power to you, but don't post bad info. Educate yourselves at the radardetector.net forums. Some of those guys live and breath radar detectors ... often to a disturbing degree.

Don't disable K.

Hold down the top two buttons for 2 seconds and it will beep twice and go into programming mode. Then tap the review button (left button as you are facing the detector) to go to the setting you want to change. Bands is the 9th setting. Scroll through the current band settings with the right button, and on X and POP3 you press the mute button (far right on the front of the detector) to turn it on or off.

Leave K, Ka, and Laser on.

Other good settings to change on the 8500 is setting it to loud (especially in the Evo) and fast power on. Expert meter is good too, as it can show multiple detections at the same time.

V1 is more complicated. I kept a printout of their instructions with me in my car ...
