Time: 30mins - 2 hours depending on your mech lvl!

Step 1: Make sure the car is some what cool, or else bolts might brake!

Step 2: Take off heat shield! There are 3 bolts on top and 1 bolt towards the front of the car!

Step 3: Take off all bolts that connects the manifold to the block total of 9 bolts! there are 2 on the side, 4 on top, 3 on the bottom. The bottom bolts is kind of hard to see you will need a extension on the right one!

Take of the 4 nuts thats connected the manifold to the turbo!

Step 4: Jack up the car

Step 5: Take off the lower arm bar + down pipe

Step 5.1: For stock lower arm bars, there are 4 bolts that is connects the 2 bars to the body, just un-bolt those and take off the lower arm bar.

Step 5.2: For DP, there are 2 bolts that is connected to the cat, take those off. There are 2 bolts that is connected to the 02 housing, take those off! Theres also 2 bolts thats holding the dp on the hangers! take those off.

Step 6: there is a L shape bracket that is that is holding the 02 housing > turbo > manifold, you just need to take off the bolt that is connected to the body.

Step 7: Now the manifold is lose enough for you to pull out! Dont be scared to be rough w/ your car!

Step 7.5: By taking off the bracket it should give you enough room to take the manifold out, but you still can't then remove the bottom intercooler hoses!!

Step 8 +++: now just reverse the whole process!

Note: Â*That there may be different or easier ways to take off the O2 Housing!

1. Â*Wait for car to cool down!

2. Â*Jack up the Car

3. Â*Take off Lower Arm Bars

4. Â*Take off DP

5. Â*Take out Radiator ( i have the Koyo, so there wasn't enough room for me to take off the bottom heat shield. Â*If you have stock may be you can take off the bottom Shield)

6. Â*Take off the Top and Bottom Heat shields

7. Â*Take off the O2 Sensor on the O2 Housing

8. Â*Take off L bracket thats holding the O2 Housing up!

9. Â*There are 3 bolts on top of the O2 Housing all 14mm, take them off.

10. Â*THere are 2 bolts on the bottom of the O2 Housing. Â*The one thats visible use a long extenstion! Â*The bolts thats right under the O2 Housing its eaiser if you buy a long 14mm wrench for it, if not its going to be a while to take that off!

11. Â*Now put the new O2 housing on and go 10>9>8>7......

Wow Jeffrey, you almost make it sound easy.

Having enough room (radiator) and getting at things from the proper angles (underneath) makes life a lot easier. More to the fact, having the poper selection of tools to do the job makes everything seem simple.

Nice write up Jeff. You'll have to follow it with pix one of these day. If I do one, I'll snap some pix.

I have Koyo Radiator so i dont hae any room to take off the shield, so i had to take off the radiator. But you may be able to take it off the sheild w/ the stock radiator.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The basic stuff im not going to explain!
But here it is!
For Lower arm bars there 4 bolts 14mm thats holding on 2 bars
DP 2 bolts to the Cat, 2 bolts to the O2 14mm
Radiator flush: Theres a drain hold on the bottom, unscrew it, and open the cap.
Radiator: 2 bolts on top to hold it down 12mm, you also need to take off the control unit 2 bolts 10mm, unplug the plugs. Take off the fan, 2 bolts 10mm i think. Take it out carefully
Interested in installing a 10.5 Hotside? Not a big fan of having to pull your turbo? Read up!
So I decided to install a 10.5 Hotside and a Megan Racing O2 Housing before getting dyno tuned again. Here's what I bought and what you'll need to do the install. You'll need everything here minus the O2 to install a hotside if you want to retain your stock O2.
http://www.socalevo.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10991/mURI_temp_04aa2ee4.jpg
The first thing you'll have to do is remove the stock undertray, and downpipe. These are simple tasks to I didn't take pictures. Once you've got those parts out you'll look up at the stock turbo outlet and see this...
http://www.socalevo.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10991/mURI_temp_88aecacd.jpg
^ Remove the black bracket holding the O2 housing to the Block. You're done under the car for now.
Next remove the manifold heatshield...
http://www.socalevo.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10991/mURI_temp_bb8d275c.jpg
Then the O2 Sensor and the lower heatshield...
http://www.socalevo.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10991/mURI_temp_3e26b925.jpg
You'll have to disconnect the O2 sensor under the coil pack cover...
http://www.socalevo.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10991/mURI_temp_f0d6d487.jpg
You'll need to pull this clip to remove the wastegate actuator arm from the Turbine Housing...
http://www.socalevo.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10991/mURI_temp_57183e25.jpg
Voila!
http://www.socalevo.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10991/mURI_temp_b0732fa8.jpg
Then you'll need to remove the manifold. Once you have everything unbolted, it will take some convincing to get the manifold out. But trust me, it can be done, as seen below....
http://www.socalevo.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10991/mURI_temp_6b4854e6.jpg
Once the clamp is off, slide the turbine housing and O2 housing off together, and be VERY careful not to damage the turbine blades.
You'll then need to remove the v-band clamp holding the hotside to the turbo's center section. Depending on the orientation of the clamp your's might not be as easy to get to as this...
http://www.socalevo.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10991/mURI_temp_5f6c6f06.jpg
This is what it looks like with the turbine housing out, the turbo is held securely in place by the coolant and oil hardlines...
http://www.socalevo.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10991/mURI_temp_d92303c6.jpg
This is your friend, use it on EVERYTHING you put back together!!
http://www.socalevo.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10991/mURI_temp_d35b07cc.jpg
You'll need to attach the O2 housing to the Turbine housing before putting it in the car. You will need to use NEW STUDS where they were on the original hotside. The hotsides do not come with them and even if you are able to get them out of your stock hotside, chances are the threads will be destroyed. So do yourself a favor, order them ahead of time and have new ones ready.
Installation is reverse of disassembly. Total install time... 4 hours for me. Hope this gives some of you DIYer's some confidence to tackle this. Good Luck!!
- Steve
EDIT: Here are the torque specs...
There are a few ways to do this. If you are set on NOT removing the manifold you can split the turbo in half on the car by removing the hotside with the 02 housing attached and then do the 02 housing on a bench. I was going to do this but I decided to take the manifold off instead.
Tools needed:
12mm socket & open wrench
14mm socket & open wrench (It’s nice if you have a ratcheting 14mm wrench also)
17mm socket & open wrench
22mm open wrench (02 Sensor)
Different size extensions
Swivel sockets or a universal
Philips head screw driver
Breaker Bar
Drop light
Telescopic Magnet really helps to not lose the washers during the manifold removal
WD40, PB Blaster, Liquid Wrench…Pick one
Remove the plastic undertray first. These little screw clips can be a real pain in the a**. A philips head screw driver with a dexterity works, but a screw gun works better.
Downpipe Removal:
If you have an extra jack stand, set it up under the catback section so its not just hanging after you remove the downpipe. Disconnect the DP from your cat/testpipe and remove the two 12mm screws from the exhaust hangers holding it up. Now disconnect the two 17mm spring bolts connecting the downpipe to the 02 housing. The down pipe will be free now being held up by the two lower arm bars. Tale off the lower arm bars and remove the downpipe. Before you proceed, make sure you remove the bracket holding the factory 02 Housing to the motor.
Remove the flex section of the lower intercooler hose. This will allow you a little more room to work. I also removed the inlet pipe off the turbo. Just be carefull when putting it back together. The one screw is a little tough to get started. You don’t want to cross thread it
Manifold Removal:
Make sure you soak these nuts and bolts. Remove the heat shield. Remove the 9 nuts holding the manifold to the head. (the 2 outers are 14mm, the 7 inners are 12mm) Remove the 2 nuts and 2 studs (14mm) from the manifold to the turbo. Now your downpipe is off and the manifold is disconnected from the head. Now push down on the turbo a little bit and wiggle the manifold off.
02 Housing Removal: Now that you have more room to work. Take out your 02 sensor from the 02 Housing. Remove the lower heat shield. The top three studs you can get from the top pretty easily. The bottom two are nuts though. You will have to get to these from under the car.
Now go ahead and reinstall in the reverse order. Be careful when putting the inlet pipe back on the turbo. Mine wasn’t on tight enough and produced a huge boost leak. Try to tighten each side equally to avoid boost leaks.
I just got installed a 02 Invidia housing, not knowing how much of a pain it is, good thing I took it to a shop. Because I would have been clueless of how to make it fit. Anyways... what I'm trying to say is, if you are getting a 02 Housing, just make sure its one that will be a close to oem replacement, with no modification to the bolts to install it.
If you plan on buying an Invidia 02 housing be prepared for to take the whole turbo off kuz youd be stuck there trying either to loosen up the bolts or, trying to shave down one off the bolts to install the 02 housing.
Also, it is recommended that you take the radiator off, it makes life a bit easier to install an 02 housing.
You don't have to remove the whole turbo, just the hotside. Install the housing and drop it all in together. Radiator removal would be great but cardboard works good to.
As far as the inlet hard pipe, you don't have to remove it. I just removed the soft part and had more then enough room.
Well, many people do it differently, so I guess its up to you, anyways, i got mine done and out of the way, good luck to whoever does it next...
Where is the fun in that. You learn so much about your car when you work on it yourself.
If you are a newb, then taking off the Turbo+Manifold to change the O2 is easier. If you have the right tools, you should just go for the O2!
You could also F stuff up if you don't know what you're doing. Thank god for forums and "how to" threads.
^^^^^^true that but its is cheaper but you just have to take your time and make sure to put everything back and not to have extra parts when your finished
