Get one from Dell. If ya look around, you can find some good coupons and some times they throw in some free stuff (printers, scanners, cameras, shipping, etc).

$800 can get you a helluva good system if you only really plan to use it for colleg stuff (i.e. typing papers, email, internet use etc...) +1 to Jon H advice about looking for coupons for Dell systems. Good stuff out there for that price!

I use HP. My brother works in an IT department for a major company and has nothing good to say about Dells reliability, FWIW.

P.S. Circuit City, Besy, Buy, CompUSA, Staples, etc. are good sources for sale computers. They always have something on sale.

build your own system. cheaper and better. research before you go and buy all the parts though.
