Had it put in a week ago. It is awesome if you want it for iPod and Navigation. Plus the Bypass was easy.

I was referred to this guy from someone on this forum, and he did an awesome job. He is located in the San Fernando Valley area. He did the install at his house. I didn't want dumb kids at Circuit City or Best Buy messing with my car. And since this guy has already did this for someone else, I figured he knew what he was doing. I am very happy with the results and he did an A++ job doing it.

No problem man...I wouldn't recommend him unless he did good work on my own car!

sorry to bring back what seems to be a dead thread but we would like to give our input on this product.

we thoroughly enjoy all of pioneer's head units. we use them frequently in our personal and demo cars.

as for the D3 unit, it is a very good and reliable unit. though we like to go with the flow of things around here and would recommend the z-series head units, the D-series are just as good if all you want is a clean double-din dvd/nav system. we have installed a few of these in the past as well as the n-series units.

for anyone who is wondering, we can get these for you and keep a few in stock as they sell very well. we like these a little more than the eclipse units because they are more user friendly and has more available add-on options for comfort/security.

good luck to the thread starter in finding his/her head unit!

Nice and faster than the Z units.

I prefer the Z units cuz they look better but the big difference is the functionality (I've had both).

Big differences are:

Z1:

30GB HD for music and navi (so you don't have to insert a map dvd everytime you input address)
Bigger screen (7 vs 6.1)

D-3:
Noticably faster IPOD load time (scrolling through songs and loading)
Plays DVD MP3 cds (while the Z does not)
Allows IPOD Video to play videos via Ipod cable (but you can only search for videos via the Ipod itself)

a friend of mine told me that on his Avic D-3 he has to insert a disc in order to be able to use the navigation feature..is that right?

That's partly correct:

you only need the disc to ENTER the address, after that it loads the directions onto it's memory and you can remove the navigation dvd and put in whatever you wish. I think it has a limit of a distance of about 100 miles.
