the blu-ray player in the ps3 is no where near as good as a stand-alone blu-ray player, just as the dvd player in the ps2 sucked big ones.

then again, hd-dvd seems to be the new format of choice, blu-ray go bye bye like betamax...

At first blue ray players on the PS3s were rushed.. Most of the movies were not playing and the quality was no where near as good. Right after the ps3 rush was over the price of the Samsung blue ray dropped from 999.99 to 799.99 and at one point was 699.99. The Samsung blue ray puts out a better feed than the ps3 and was designed much better. Kind of like some of the movies that are in blue ray right now seem a little bit sketchy and others look perfect. They are both being transmitted in 1080p but some are just better quality for example if you want to see a really good movie on blue ray rent or buy ultra violet. Since the blue ray players are designed to only play movies and games its naturally going to have the better quality and more features these players range from 799.99-1699.99.

Do you guys just make shit up as you go? Or do you do any real research before you start typing your bullshit? Currently Blu-ray is outselling Hd DvD at a ratio of 9:2...

It will be expensive, then will go down like all technology. It might even become dirt cheap like beta.

personally never said they dont selli personally like the blue ray as for me making up shit, i sell both video players in a home theater department and right now if people do their research before buying it, different movie companies back different formats.

have u guys seen the upconvert dvd player by panasonic please do not be fooled that it says it upconverts to 1080p its still not a true pictures they are trying to convert 480p to 1080p -_- when will this madness end. only 99.99 not as good as a next generation dvd player but better than a normal dvd player =)

The primary reason blue ray diodes are so expensive is because they are difficult for manufacturers to yield. I don't know the percentage, but lets say 40 out of 100 fail. The price has to be raised to compensate for the failed parts.

The PS3 is manufactured and sold at a loss because no one would buy it at $1k.

Looks like you are wrong...

Blu-ray took the lead in February, and its percentage of total sales accelerated to the point where it accounted for nearly three out of every four high-definition discs sold in March.

What's more, when given the choice, consumers are going with Blu-ray. Warner Home Video released "The Departed" the same day, February 13, in both formats. Between then and March 31, consumers bought 53,640 copies of the film on Blu-ray Disc and 31,590 on HD DVD.

From January 1-March 31, consumers bought almost 1.2 million high-definition discs -- 832,530 Blu-ray units and 359,300 HD DVDs -- according to Home Media Magazine. In March, consumers bought 335,980 Blu-ray Discs and 119,570 HD DVDs.

Since the high-def format's inception -- HD DVD launched in April 2006, while Blu-ray got rolling two months later -- more than 2.14 million discs have been purchased by consumers: 1.2 million Blu-ray Discs and about 937,500 HD DVDs.

yes, its still early; but the trends have started and show no signs of changing. I dont think it will be too long before we have a clear cut winner
