I have full cat back and down pipe plus a new header. Should i replace my factory cat and put in a cat delete? or it is not worth it to replace it due to the law. Please give me some advice on it.

it ain't worth the 1-1.5hp gain. not to mention the popos will smell you when they roll up behind you.

after a tune it's more like 5-15whp gain all over the power curve, esp. mid-range to top-end.

it is well worth buying a high flow cataletic converter.

I have to agree. I had a TO for a while and the stress it caused me everytime I had a cop behind me or was pulled over, was insane. Just get a Raly cat or HPC and be done with it. You won't lose hp like with a stock cat and you will feel better

if you have to ask the question.. dont get it...

had a cat delete on my STI and every time i got pulled over by a cop they never looked under the car. they made me pop my hood and i got more referee tickets than i count count, but they never got on their knees to check it out.

currently have a Perrin 3" TP on my evo with no hassles.

And trust me, you can smell it. but the hp gain, who cares. $100 for 10hp .. i'd pay $10/1hp all day long. (and i round up to $100, you can find them for $50 used -$80+new)

it all depends on where you stand. lol. it'll give you the most power, but you'll me messing up the enviroment, which means that the law can get you if you're caught.

but i havent heard of anyone who's been busted for having a test pipe...recieving that $2,000 emissions ticket. at the ref, they'll just send you back home...but no additional tickets

i have a RRE one for sale if you're interested O0

if you get a ref ticket .. just swap it out and put that cat back on for the referee .. then put the TP back on after O0

youre recommending the rally cat , correct ? loll rally cat for stealth would be a good investment if you plan to run a catless system.
this kind of question has been cover, over and over... do a bit of search there's always pros and cons. At the end, it is up to you to determine whether is worth it or not...

you guys ARE aware that the Rally Cat is a test pipe right? it's just wrapped in a shell with some sound deadening material in it....basically it still stinks like shit.

but if you're running with A/C on, less power!! A/C off man!

I've had both setups - catless and high-flow cat. Â*Though I loved the power of no cat, I decided to be more environmentally friendly and went with the high-flow cat. Â*This almost seems to be a test pipe but no bad smell, and not a fake "rally cat". Â*Has anyone done some dyno runs catless and with high flow cat? Â*I'm thinking maybe 4-5hp difference max. Â*I have the ultimate racing 3" high flow cat.

i think it may be more like 8-10whp diff, a cat really does rob power even if its high flow

SoCalRedLine

how bout...

BOTH...
a HFC for your DDing, and a test pipe for your track days
...where that extra 4-5hp makes a HUGE difference (/sarcasm)

Also, any modification to the exhaust system, cat and before, is grounds for an appt. with the state Ref. Possibly a HUGE ticket as well...

seriously, do what you want to your car.
If you want to run the risk of running a test pipe, and gain a whopping 5hp over a high flow cat, cause youre the ultimate street racer, then do so.

ive heard from 10-15 awp from most everyone.

and i can definitely tell the difference with my rally cat.

rally cat ftw!

Ya, you can tell the difference. That 15 extra hp can come in handy when you're racing somone with the exact same setup as you but they have a cat.
Happened to me a couple times

Just get the QTP 3inch Downpipe with electric cutout. I have one and its connected to my stock cat and stock exhaust. When its open, its better than a full 3inch exhaust. When its closed, its sounds stock again.

I agree.Â* I have a test pipe and DD my car.Â* The fumes gets annoying and your eye starts to hurt after a while.Â*

With performance, you can tell the difference when you punch it.Â* I use to only have a catback exhaust and when I punched it, i felt the restriction.Â* Now, it's like slapping on some breathe right on your nose before you go to bed.Â* Â*O0

i have the RRE stealth TBE with their rally cat and dont smell any difference then with a cat
is it when you give it power? or just from regular driving?

With my car, you can smell the fumes whenever it's on even if you slightly crack open the window.Â* Close all windows, turn ac on, and push recirc button and no more smell.

Knock on wood, but i've had many cops follow, or drive by and never got pulled over for the smell.Â* Even next to a cop at a red light.Â* The only thing I see them do is listen to my exhaust and see if it's loud.Â* Although, I did get pulled over and got a ticket for 15% tint near San Diego.Â* Maybe you should consider that instead.Â*

well, maybe its also cuz i have a resonator???

JCRUZ
11-08-2007, 07:11 PM
That could be it. My exhaust doesn't have any resonators.

Btw, sorry for your loss on that evo. At least you're fine and replaced the car instead of a life. Congrats!

maybe your sense of smell isn't that good, lol... there is no way you cannot smell the fumes if you have no cat when u are outside and the car is idling, resonator makes no difference

maybe you have a hfc?

vial8or

at idle ya, i can smell it. its just not nearly as bad as ive smelt other peoples set up.
