This is a very fun road to drive on. I have a friend that drives his 73 mini cooper on this road everyday for work. Have fun and drive safe.

I don't think it is... we spoke to the Ranger the last time that we were up there (a few months ago) and said it would take another year till they finish repairing the road. Regardless it's open a good distance I would say at least 20 or so miles of fun!

you can do canyon runs fine with stock suspension. just cause you did a canyon run does not mean you need to buy coilover. most people can not maximiaze there stock suspension so why upgrade to better suspension when you can/t maximize your stock suspension. looks like you guys had fun. i might tag along next time but only if someone gives me a ride cause my car aint going up there.

I agree - but how exactly do maximize the stock? I am not a petite person - I was having issues with weight transfer at corner initiation - I can get the weight to move to the corner I want - but any bump or undulation at entry or mid corner upsets the suspension balance - like the shocks are under dampened (?) or too softly sprung. I have a 25 mm adjustable rear sway bar and cusco type 1 nad 2 under braces....

I have espelir GT springs w/ stiffer spring rates and it tended to get away from me at times. The tires that I'm running are so not for this run or any, need some stickier tires and perhaps a mueller stage 1.

Done! I was thinking of springs - but without being able to adjust dampening - seems like you are risking ruining the handeling. BELIEVE me - I am not jumping on the "coil-over bandwagon"! I would rather spend that money elsewhere - just seems like the best option for how I want the car to handle....

Todd, I'll let you test drive my car on the next meet. I have stage II set-up with -5 camber. The car handles great. It did get scarry a few times though. My backend started to get loose on some of the turns. Like Danny said, we need to brake a little sooner. Some of the entry speeds for the turns were 60 mph....That's freakin fast!!! I think you held your own pretty well for your set-up.

I've done that same run a couple of times on VIII stock suspension and stock wheels. The car held it's own but when I went with Stage II set-up, the difference was night and day. I'll have to get stickier tires on the next run so I can push harder.

I was definately braking early - trying to get the weight transfer going. yea - 60 is fast - but you don't really realize how fast you are going! I have a performance meter - I have it set on friction circle - it measures cornering, braking & acceleration Gs combined - most corners were at .72 g and some peaking at .82 g. Angelo - thanks! I will take you up on that ride offer - I saw you gaining on me mid corner!

It was fun for sure but speeds were moderate and hardly comfortable any faster than 75-80. I was in the front and used a large degree of discretion based on the amount of traffic and the visibility of the turn. As far as coilovers go. I say get you some if handling is your thing. Do we need em? Probably not depends on what you want. I say learn the stock suspension and power first. Do we need Evo's probably not. Depends on what you want again. I have coilovers and a Mueller stage1 and noticed that the car felt far more planted in the sweepers. Which allowed for a higher rate of speed. I need to do a track day ASAP!

Long story, but the basics are: I got stopped at a light, you guys got on the 405fwy. The last I remember was hearing 710 was how we were going to go. So I jump on the 405, then change to the 710. I find out from peter (by cell phone), that you guys were almost to the 110fwy by way of the 405. Pete suggests that I go down to the 105, and try to catch you guys at the 110. So thats what I did, but by the time I got there, you all were way past, so I pick up the pace a little :angel:, and manage to catch up to you guys by downtown LA near the 10.

Sure did! I am still learning the software - and it is just video from inside my car - but the still slide show came out cool. about an hour of in car video. I have to learn more about editing....
