so my instructer handed me a tracer the other day (one of those tracers people use to see if their wife is cheating on them) and it tells location, time, destination, speed, etc.. anyways, he told me that the record on it is 133mph, so i told him that if i dont break 160 that he can fail me.

on sept 1 i take the evo out and hit 170 @ 7500 rpm..

on tuesday when i went into school the tracer was plugged into the computer and it said that my top speed was only 154mph...

now i know that the speedo can be off after 120 or so because it's only a magnetic pickup, so eventually it'll be off by 5 mph MAYBE 10.. but 16mph? that seems a little off...

so to do the math on what the evo's final drive is geared to do, i need to know 5TH GEAR RATIO AND REAR DIFF RATIO..

if anybody could please help me it would be appreciated, and i will let you guys know what the top speed is according to these two ratios and rpm.. thank you!!!!

RPM is much more reliable than your speedo.Â* 7500rpm in 5th is 174 mph with factory gearing and a 5 speed.Â* Â* You won't hit that unless your on a good downgrade if your stock so your speed was probably fairly accurate on the tracker.Â*

You might have broken 160mph, butthe tracer is GPS based. You would have to hold the speed for a little bit in order for it to register properly. They work by measuring the distance traveled over time. So if you hit 170 and then let off the gas it did an average and calculated the 154mph.

ah...if it's GPS based then yeah it gets less and less accurate as your speed gets higher, at least that's how it is with my GPS...
