PS3!!! should i buy it??

Ok i want a ps3... well sorta. i dont really want one yet, i wanted to wait til some good games came out, but i do want one with the emotion engine. which means after the 60gb are gone so are the ee ps3s, this means im running out of time, as they have switched over to software emulation of ps2 games with the new 80gb which if its anything like xbox emulation on the 360 it sucks. so those of you with ps3s my question goes out to you. do you think the ps3 is worth buying now just for the emotion engine? should i wait until some better games come out and settle for software emulation? or when the price point for the 80gb drops and just get the 80gb one or the rumored 40gb one that may come out?

im leaning towards just buying a 60gb while they are still offerin free crappy blu-rays. anyone know anywhere offering deals on ps3s?

yeah i was expecting price drops during christmas, but i also expect the 60gb to be gone by sometime next month and like i said im leaning towards buying one now for the emotion engine, and free blu-ray even if the movies suck

Whats the difrence of the emotion engine and software emulation? Im not to educated about this stuff , but I have been wondering about picking one of these up soon.

emotion engine is a piece of hardware that handles the ps2 emulation.Â* they took it out to cut costs in the 80 gb, euro, and all future ps3s.Â* so in the newer ones they are doing software emulation like the xbox 360 does with the xbox games.Â* all problems with game emulation will be handled via updates like the xbox360 does. so the 60gb ps3 are the last ones with the emotion engine in it, and sony has stated that they have no more in their warehouses and have stopped production on them, so what is in stores now is all that is left. im just trying to decide if its worth buying it now just for the emotion engine, im leaning towards yes but still undecided.

software emulation as you said, and reported from kotaku land just isn't as good coz there are quite a bit games that isn't compatible.
but then... ebevo said that there might be holes or exploits for the hax0rs to "fix" up the system so it can play "imports" in the future.

yeah its not like im really paying for it since i won 400 in vegas over labor day weekend. im just waiting to find some kind of deal with a game or somethin. i have until the end of the month for the blu-rays. im hoping i see something at frys that throws in a fee hdmi cable or something. im just waiting to see if any good priced bundles show up to give me that final push. im also waiting to see where the rumors go. there are rumors of a 40gb being introduced at a 400 dollar price point and the 80gb motostorm bundle dropping to the 60gb price point. but that shouldnt happen until its closer to holiday season if it happens at all. even if it does drop to 400 i dont know if i want to give up the emotion engine for software emulation.

The PS3 is definitly worth it....even if you dont have a hdtv it still makes the movies bad ass!!! It's just that much more enjoyable with HDtv and all....jump on it now and dont regret it later. It maybe slow...but it's slowly starting to pick up.

I"ll tell you that I've had mine for like 3 months now....and I've had an Elite for like 3 weeks. I play the hell out of the Elite and hardly touch the PS3 except to play BluRay movies lol. PS3 just doens't have the titles XBOX does. I have Virtual Fighter 5, Darkness, and Resistance (which by itself makes a PS3 worth having IMO) but that's about all the titles out right now that I have found worth having for the PS3. But when Metal Gear 4 comes out....all bets are off! Love Halo 3.....but my loyalties lie with MG for sure!

Xbox FTW!!!!! The only reason to get PS3 would be for GT5, but wait for Forza 3 :D. It's been said 100x, you don't need to buy a PS3 for the damn blu-ray, you can get a blu-ray player that won't be prone to breaking because of excessive drive use. The good thing Xbox did was to separate the HD drive with the DVD game drive.

They are both good system in their own right. The one thing that a game console needs is GAMES. Right now there is no argument, 360 has the games. The PS3 will have it's games in time.

Bluray maybe coming for the xbox as well said by Microsoft few days ago. They are watching closely the market between bluray and HD-DVD.

I guess that was why MS never released an internal HD-DVD drive with the xbox and that adds their flexibility to move between the platforms.

why was this brought back from like 4 months ago. i already bought a ps3 and i still dont own any games for it because it still has no good exclusives. and any games released on both systems i just get for the 360. the internet for ps3 may be free but its better on the xbox. sad to say but if it wasnt for the blu-ray drive and the GT demos i probably wouldnt even touch the ps3.

I work at Gamestop and to tell you the truth we have customers coming in all the time complaining about their PS3 always messing up, especially on certain games. This past christmas, after the holiday we had 10 plus returns on PS3 that were given as gifts. Its rare when someone comes in and complains about the Xbox 360, in my opinion its way better, and there are plenty of games already out.

how the F do you not offer ps1/ps2 backwards compatibility in all versions? for god's sake sony is really digging themselves an even deeper hole. if it weren't a cheap blu-ray player i probably would never buy one, as it is i am waiting for the next price drop to pull the trigger. $299 is the magic number, and if they can hit that price this summer then i may actually get one.
