Same thing happening with the '08 STI...it seems as though Mitsubishi and Subaru are trying to cater to the general public and not make their flagship sports sedans aggressive...I guess we'll have to wait and see how they do. I for one am glad I got myself a IX MR.

They probably realized the Evo/STI target market wasn't a profitable one. My guess is there were an exorbitant amount of warrantee claims and a lot of do-it-yourselfer's when it came to maintenance.

....probably more money in the broad market.

I think it can have a better 1/4 mile time if they raise the stationary rev limiter(2-step) to 6k

i think you should re-read the article since it clearly states they are "aluminum" crash beams....i guess u read it thoroughly....i cant imagine the US spec beams weighing more than 10 to 15lbs a pop....

handling is superior it seems. should be a beast on a track.
we should reserve judgement until a comparism is done side by side with a 9.

The article says that it's doing a .97g in the skip pad. I know thats better than the 8's and the 9's.

Word........future regs. require vehicle changes that almost always affect weight. Every car company has the same issue. I'm sure Mitsu. would love to get the Evo's fighting weight under 3000lbs. but with YOU, the consumer wishing for additional safety equipment (side, head and knee airbags, pedestrian impact protection, larger government mandated crumple zones, etc.) and added luxuries it's no surprise where the weight comes from.
So with this new Evo, Mitsu. may/should pick up a new buyer. Buyers that liked the 'old' Evo VII-IX's power and performance but not the frenetic ride and cheap material quality.
Will Mitsu. loose some of it's fan-boy clientele? Yep, more than likely. But it's happened before, when the light and very tossable Evo V-VI became the too big and fat Evo VIII. But look at how many new buyers that car picked up (all of us included).

i think the dual exhaust is a stoopid idea....dual exhaust on a 4cyl? Anyone smell SRT?

according to market research its what the consumer wants!

09-24-2007, 01:51 PM
people get caught up in the skidpad rating, thats just how much overall grip the car has. Ive seen cars get a really high skidpad rating and then run a slow lap time. Wait for a 9 vs X track battle before you can say for sure that the X or 9 handles better. The other shitty thing about the X is its going to be a lot less of a drivers car with all that super computer handling shit it has, not to mention im sure the usdm X is going to be heavier then the JDM X

The best solution here is to keep your current and get a X...of course after the get rid of the ugly ass dual exhaust.

I remember people talking smack about the evo ix before it came out... then a lot of people started trading in for a IXÂ* :uglystupid2:Â* I can see that happening when the evo x comes out..... a lot of people talking smack and then they're going to want it... no offense.Â* :smitten: :mitsu:

They said that they lapped the evo x 2 seconds faster than the ix... go figure.

How do you figure? The 08 STI weighs less than an 07 and should have quite a bit more power with a better suspension and bigger brakes to boot.

According to who? Who's driven the new STi? What magical magazine review are you getting your info. from? Give us real stats please.

BTW: the X does have bigger brakes. And that's a fact.

RallyWRX
09-28-2007, 04:17 PM
the WRX hatch is 50lbs less than the outgoing sedan, the revised rear suspension also is better, and the STI is seen with 6 Pot Calipers testing... of course, nothing is concrete because Subaru keeps their STI tucked away until the last moment so they can make last minute changes if needed... all while Mitsubishi is showing the EVO to everyone and their mama. anyways, nothing is really set in stone... the EVO reviews were all JDM EVO's, so many things can change as well.

leaveit2bevo
09-28-2007, 08:29 PM
that STi with the 6 pot calipers also had a cage, the new wrx doesnt even have 4 pot any more so what makes you think there going to give the sti 6?

RallyWRX
09-28-2007, 08:44 PM
yes and the drivers are also wearing helmets... why would they do that??? the cage is a simple roll bar, so lets not get carried away with that. the wrx brakes are the larger Legacy brakes, which work just as well as the 4 pots and cost less. the WRX = mass appeal. the STI = racer appeal. this time around there is a clear seperation, so to base the STI off the WRX wouldn't be completely accurate. Its even said the STI will recieve a rear macpherson strut suspension like before because its better for rally. the bottom line is no one knows what we'll get until its here... its all conjecture unless you've previewed the US model already. I may have seen it already, but I wouldn't be able to tell you if I did... ;)
