So a buddy of mine goes to the nearby Mitsubishi dealership today and picks up the Evo X brochures we requested a few weeks back. They tell him they actually have an Evo X on the island at one of the main locations, so we head off to check it out…

This was the manual transmission GSR model. Overall impression was that it was a lot nicer than I expected. The car feels bigger in every dimension though. The wheel wells seem to swallow up the 18” 245’s, and I think the car would look 10 times better with a good stance and 19’s. The stock 18” wheels are extremely nice, but look a little small with the new sheet metal. The front brakes looked immense compared to the STi. Not sure the exact specs but the rotors are massive. The rear of the car looked great. The rear wheel arches looked a lot better in person, and seem to be pretty wide. I’m almost certain you can fit wider grips under there. The front of the car did have a familiar feeling of a Volvo, but that’s not a bad thing at all. I can see how the right stance on this car would look menacing from the front.

Inside was fairly spartan I thought, but nice. Seats were great. Not sure what we’ll get in the US, but these were pretty good for stock, and didn’t leave me wanting to change them like I would in the STi. Having said that, I liked the new STi interior better. Felt more “solid” I thought.

Overall impression was that it was very nice…

my thoughts:

the new Sti annihilates the X's interior in every possible way. it is total domination.

the X looks very angry, which is win.

5spd manual...fail. it's 2008 a 6spd manual should be made standard IMHO.

overall the car looks great, but this time around the new STi seems the winner for me. yea it's uglier but it's got 5 doors, less weight, and 6spd. only left is the power potential for both cars, but with more weight the Evo will be fighting an uphill battle. ftl.

What is so special about this? It is in Japan and it should be available at any Mitsubishi dealers in Japan.
You should put Japan in the title.

looks great!!! I want to see what development is done to this car 6 months from the original release here is the states. What the tuners and companies will have to offer and to find the true potential of this car. Mitsu has seemed everysingle time with the Evo to improve in areas that others took for granted at the beginning. Only time will tell aftermarket support for this car will truly be.

Man Mitsu said they upgraded the interior. In all honesty that interior looks BO-Ghast.. I'll keep my 05' SSL.

It is all cool. But I really like the red for this gen of evo. Silver does not do the justice.

Chrysler "world" motor FTL...Evo is now related to a Neon... :buck2:
Front is ok... guess its going to have to "grow" on me...all the ACD AYC and other "helpers" are going to make the car practically drive itself.
So glad I have my VIII... oh and that steering wheel is Fugly

Man you guys are harsh. The Evo X is a evolution of the turbo saloons ever. Sure the evo is a fast car but it has always turely shined in the corners with is awesome awd. Also unlike the STI it uses computers to help give better traction, it has done this since the evo VI with AYC(which we are finally getting YAH!!). Just think the first evo's in the US like my 03 has no ACD, no AYC, and no LSD front diff, but how happy were we to get it. Now we are getting ACD, AYC, a rally-like twin clutch, and better handling and you guys complain? Sure they changed the motor (it sucks no more iron block) but at least it is still a 2L and not some 2.5(like the US STI) or 2.4 from the old neon. The car still looks like an Evo but even more pissed and is WWWAAAYYY better looking than the sti PIG. I like the fact that they advanced the technology of the handling and improved the interior. Only time will tell where the aftermarket will take it, but at least I know we will be out handling the new Sti in stock form as always.

Lets see that 4B11 sucker handle 27lbs (DD or not) and up on stock block and internals. Betcha it wont last long as the 4G63 does. O0

IMO Mitsubishi "sold" out. It compromised to sell more units. I loved what the Evo was about until I saw the X. Now it just doesn't feature computers, it needs them. I'm sorry to say but the X is just another plain jane euro sedan to me.

compromised to sell more units....have you seen the wrx? That is a compromise to sell more units, it looks like a corolla. So in turn the STI looks like a corolla on steroids. I think mitsubishi can not afford to fail with the Evo X, also if they did not compromise a little they might not even be here anymore and there would be no evo anyways. I will take an Evo X that outhandles a VIII or IX anyday, but only time will tell how good or bad it is..

just give it sometime....just remember that RRE and Mueller work closely w/ Mitsu headquarters in Cypress. Rumor has it that RRE is already prepping some mad ish for the X....i'm sure in a year we will either love it or hate it....i just want to see it @ some pro events against the big boys....

Im not a fan of the STI either. Im not saying the X is an inferior car because it's not. It's just not for me.
