I have a clutch I would like to try out. Looking for someone with a maxxed out stock turbo hp. 350-375ish would be fine. Stealthy looking cover but it has an obviously afternmarket sprung hub. Cost is $250 installed including the clutch, pressure plate, release bearing, trany oil, transfer case oil and a resurfaced stock flywheel.

Will be taken in order of when the e-mail arrives and when you can get it installed. [email protected] No PMs please.

You will be taking a chance of course. But if it sucks you will only be out the $250 and I'll do my best to get you another clutch for a deep discount but far more money than this deal.

Actually... the hub they gave me was a scooby hub. Clutch didnt fit :-P So Yoblless/Will gets a No Name RRE clutch for $250 installed cause a clutch installed for $250 is what we promised him :-) When I get this clutch with the correct hub again I will contact the next two people that were in line for it to try to work something out.

Thanks...

UPDATE: 340 miles later and i've finally found the "g" spot of the clutch. Now it's time for the Carbonetics rep. to really test drive my car. It was a real bummer to drive around this weekend not revving past 4K.

UPDATE: After some hard driving last night and inspection of the clutch, it was removed. I'll let Mike W chime in here for the nitty gritty.

It was a great clutch, grabbed like a mofo, didn't slip...1st gear was just a PITA to modulate, hit or miss. But once it got a hold, it was butter.

Right now i'm in the process of breaking in another clutch. Thanks RRE for hooking me up and for letting me be the "test mule" for this project.

im going to start tracking it next year a lot
thanks

It was a budget version of a Carbonetics single disc clutch. Supposedly all the rage in JDM land but with real men driving them we found the weak spot. Going to redesign the disc (changing to a larger carbon puck) and try it again after the 1st of the year.

Let me know after the first if you still need another "test mule."

That clutch was doomed to die that night...

The original might have looked like that, but it was grenaded in a short time.

I'll let Mike W check in with the technical analysis. I just drive the car :D

UPDATE: Well round two went out in a blaze of glory on the southbound 110 this past thursday night. The clutch pedal went down and never came back up.

RRE took care of everything, heck Mike W even loaned me somebodies 85 Crown Vic.

Mike W can chime in on what exactly was wrong w/ that last clutch...back to the drawing boards.

For anyone keeping score:

You guys should really get an aftermarket flywheel to desipate heat better, I remember reading thats the main reason why the stock clutches would give out quickly.

Also you have to warm up a carbon clutch, You have to slip it a couple of times to get it warmed up. Im very interested in this clutch setup, and am actually looking for a longer lasting clutch.

Just for reference this next clutch will be my 3rd aftermarket clutch in less than 30K miles.

yobless
04-08-2008, 01:59 PM
Ummm I am running an RRE lightened flywheel...You can slip this clutch all you want but 1st gear is not for the faint of heart. There is no "feathering" with this clutch, its rev and go.

Maybe you can be the next test subject as I've already beat down 2 of these clutches.

Is the Carbon clutch like a cerametallic 6 puck? harsh engagement? Hard pedal feel?

And as of right now my car is down due to my tranny blowing its 1st gear and a lot of synchros LOL

I can't say for sure because I haven't used one, but from what I know about carbon friction material, it's not as harsh as ceremetallic, even in a puck style disk. The pedal feel should be close to stock because the puck style disk reduces the need for crazy clamping pressures.

yobless

The engagement is a bit harsh in comparison to an ACT 2900 and the stock clutch, the only other clutches i've ever dealt with on a Evo. The pedal feel is normal, the ACT is a bit more stiff, but nothing crazy.
