Cant believe I spent 2 hours searching and cant find any answers lol

Whats the stock battery life? any longer than other stock cars or just as STOCK LIFE?

Asking because maybe its time for me to change a mini battery.

Alternator?

start the car. disconnect the negative,if the car shuts off ur alternator is bad. if it continues to run then you battery is dead.

also check the water level in the battery.

you might need to add distilled water. check the battery. make sure the blue/red indicator is ok.

bringing this back up from the dead...

34k miles on my IX MR...car wont start unless i jump it. added water to it and that worked for a couple of days...but now its back to not starting. its safe to say its the battery? any replacement suggestions? not really looking for a mini battery...whatever works.

check charging system, it might be as simple as the belt, to the battery is dead to the alternator is seizing. autozone or kragen do baterry test...... while the baterry is on the car.

Costco has good batteries at cheap prices, and they have like 4-5 year warranties. O0

They also don't peel the date purchased off of the batteries so you can make your battery look 1 yr old 4 yrs down the line

went to autozone...they tested the battery and said it was bad, but heres the weird part...a couple days ago it wouldnt start at all without being jumped...now it DOES start but it sounds like its about to die...wtf?

Most batteries last 3 to 4 years, but it seems now that when they fail they fail, no warning, no recovery. The battery has two functions in the car, start the car, and stabilize the voltage when the car is running in the event of changing loads. Most charging systems barely work at idle and the battery has to support the changing loads, i.e. radio, AC, pumps, fans, etc. until the idle speed comes up to support the load. From your description it sounds like some connection inside the battery is failing and the battery does not do a good job of keeping the voltage stable when the car is running. If the battery is bad, replace it. The voltage across the battery should be about 12.5 volts when the car is not on and about 14.5 volts when the car is on.

is it normal for the car to have some trouble, but start when its warm outside (like today) and not turn over at all when its cold?

definitely not normal, seems reasonable to believe it might be caused the battery, which has already determined from testing to be bad

You seem to not want to replace battery, I am not sure why. I would guess the battery is bad based on the test. Batteries will sometimes fail randomly or from rough handling. A friend had an almost new battery die on him after a little off-roading in death valley. And it was well and truly broken, only measured about 10 volts, one cell was completely shorted.

If you can borrow a battery charger (follow the instructions and use the lowest setting/trickle charge level), recommend you remove battery from car or at least discount from car electrical, and after charging the battery still tests bad, then the battery is for certain bad.

Not sure what you local temperature is, but unless it is below 40 F things are fine. If lower than that try to find a heated garage space to charge the batter.

There may be other problems, but one at a time.

i dont not want to replace the battery...i just havent had time to go get one. i also want to make sure thats the problem before i get one...

only reason why im doubting the test is because it was done at night...and for some reason, the car wont turn over at night...but during the day, it starts with hesitation. i think im going to get it tested during the day...see if its still "bad". i just find it hard to believe it went bad already.

temperature in simi valley is pretty nice...the car is garaged so that is also not an issue. i did take the car to mt high/big bear a few times...left it outside at the hotel when it was pretty cold...i would hope one or two days out in the cold wouldnt do that much damage to the battery??

I understand. I don't think the day to night temperature difference in most of socal will make any change on the test result. Trickle charging might help, but I would guess you have a battery with a random manufacturing defect. If you see the 14.5 volts when idling it is likely that the charging system works. The only other thing I can think of is the starter, but if it works in the day, night is not much different here.

Found this on evom about optima batteries, they have a good rep for lasting

I hope not...I handled it with bare hands...no problems yet. O0

good to know that takes care of that!

acid damage, I think he means the car, I would suggest cleaning out the battery tray and any area were battery acid may have dripped, not sure the best way to do this as there are a lot of wires, a high car wash place can probably steam clean your engine bay, suggest removing the battery so that the battery tray is cleaned at the same time. Be careful there are wires everywhere.
