View Full Version : How plug in GM 3 port to stock BCS plug

I am using the GM 3 port and ECU controlled boost. I am into stealth and hate cutting or tapping into stock wiring. I saw a post earlier that the opposite plug for the BCS is not available. Today I spent some time in the local Pick your Part looking for a solution. I found IT! I took the pressure sensor off the aircon line from a 90 Galant, any late model Mitsu should work. The 1 on our cars is the same. This has the same plug as the BCS. I used a hacksaw to remove the metal around the sensor and then removed the innards of the sensor. You then have to pry out and trim the contacts, solder on the pigtail and resistor. I will use some silicone or epoxy inside the area where the soldered contacts are, you will see that it is a void in the back of the plug. I also got the pigtail for the GM 3 port, they are common on gm cars. I will try to post pics later.

Very nice. Did you used to own a DSM?

I'm actually having some plugs made so it is a true plug and play solution for those not interested in cutting wires, but your solution looks real good.

Thanks

I posted this on Norcalevo also and there is someone up there making plugs also. Sounds like duplication of effort. The only mitsubishi I owned before was a Dodge D50. It was kind of a piece of crap. I do have a Honda though, an 85 CRX SI, it was my play car before the EVO.

Hah there is always a bunch of duplication of effort, and it will lead to an awesome e-pissing match before too long I'm sure... :p

something I'm definitely interested in doing
3 GM port set up... also will this be an issue if you decided to go with an EMS for the IX's ???

Toyota dealership is your friend. Apparently Toyota uses the same connector on one of their SUVs. They sell that patch harness with plug for around $3.00 bucks if you dig deep.

Shouldn't be. Aby just converted his AEM to run off the stock Evo solenoid...with better results than the MBC he was using. He should be ordering a GM 3 port soon to test against the stocker.

it should be very interesting, since im sure he will gather some data and post it like always .. cant wait !

Alot of the AEM EMS guys use the GM 3port to control boost.
are you referring to this unit here ???

and does it allow the same features you're using with the GM 3 port solenoid you happen to use for the Open EcU ??

Yeah that's it. AEM 30-2400 is the part number

thanks... and that would lead to the next question...
hasn't people in the past used the apexi
aem
in order to control boost? an if this is the case and using this kind of units pair with the ecu..
1. what makes it so special now and not then (since they've been around for quite sometime)
2. did it need any kind of hacking done to the wiring ? or did it allow it to work with 0 problems due to the functional ebc style alike boost ?

Are you asking what makes the Apexi boost solenoid special? Nothing really.. ;)

both (AEM and Apexi) loll and why the need of hacking into the harness? was this the same procedure in the past? or it wasnt needed since it used an external unit (like an EBC) in order to control boost? unlike the OEM unit, since its controlled via ECU

Pare, do you happen to know the part number?

I don't have the plug in front of me to compare it to but I found this site that has pics w/ part numbers http://dutch.northwestmr2.com/Toyota/mr2%20spyder/Collision%20Repair/Wire%20Harness%20Repair/14%20-%20Table%20of%20housing%20shape%20-%20Female%20-%20Waterproof%20type.pdf

oops, just looked at the pic posted above...

Dude! How far off are you from getting them? I got the GM 3-port in my hand with a pigtail right now, and I would prefer not to hack into my wires... Ofcourse, I actually solder the wires together, then heatshrink them, so it will look nice, but I'd still prefer to plug and play.

I'm in the same boat, have the resistor soldered in ready to go.
