Hey Everybody,
If you recall, the shop had a great day at the November Import Tuner Evo vs. Sti Shootout, winning first in both categories of the street class. That day, there was an Option Magazine crew covering the eventÂ* ^-^. We filled out a questionaire about the car and they took a bunch of photos. Here is what they looked like as they went over my car:

http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r219/TuningTechnologies/100_5217.jpg?t=1194614637

They said they would mail us a copy when it came out and it arrived a couple of days ago. Here is the cover:

http://www.socalevo.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10300/normal_scan0003.jpg

Inside, many of the competing cars got some exposure, here is the coverage on our car:

http://www.socalevo.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10300/normal_scan0002.jpg

Very cool indeed.

Since that event, Alfred and I realized that my car, as fast as it is, needed several upgrades to stay competitive. We're not into being secretive, if we are the fastest great, if someone beats us, out hat goes off to them. Here is just a couple of things we have already done or are doing now to make the car even faster:

1.Â* Installed stiffer springs front and rear.
2.Â* Installed stiffer sway bars front and rear (front OEM bar drilled out to be adjustable).
3.Â* Completely disassembled and re-assembled my Ohlin Road & Track coilovers. Sent out to repair scratched strut shaft and basic servicing for all four dampers (got a shock dyno chart back tooÂ* O0).
4.Â* Added Whiteline Roll Center Adjustment Kit.
5.Â* About to add rear bump steer kit.
6.Â* Added new bushings to front control arms.
7.Â* Full alignment and corner balance. We found a lot more negative camber in the front and finally got the rear end to sit perfectly (lower).Â* O0
8.Â* Installed AMS brake cooling kit.
9.Â* Switching to Castrol SRF brake fluid. $$
10. Removed stock airbox and replaced with open cone filter. Saved a few lbs too.
11. Removed weight: got rid of intercooler spray bottle and all brackets and bolts holding it, my bcs, and my airbox out.
12. With the intercooler spray bottle removed, there is now a perfect location to run cold air ducting to the intake from the front bumper.
13. Switching to HTA35R turbo on TTech Turbo kit. Sticking with .63 hotside.
14. Finally installing my AMS VSR Intake manifold.
15. Switching back to 880cc injectors.
16. Adjusted APR front splitter to provide more downforce and am reinforcing it more.
17. Adding a catÂ* :tickedoff:
18. Installed front ARP wheel studs.
19. Wheels/tires/spacers for max grip for street class...
20. Re-tune coming.

I absolutely love being on vacation! Aside from the alignment, tune, welding on the cat, and servicing of the coilovers, I have done all work myself. It is a very satisfying feeling, but my hands have at least 10 nicks and cuts all over them. Thanks to Alfred, Moe, Oscar, Patrick, and Jenn's son Kyle for lending a helping hand whenever needed.

Options peeps were very cool. I'm thankful they remembered to send me a magazine. :smitten: They really wanted to take more pics of the car but she was to busy with the other mag. shootout. 8) When we gave them the questionnaire it was really cute they thought the cars name was smoggy. I said no , but that is close.... ;) The owners name is smoggy and the cars name is the Smogmobile they really liked that. :mitsu: I hope everyone enjoys the pics you can also see the TV episode of the race on the Speed Channel, Redline TV with Tanner Foust as the host.Â* The EVO vs STI Shootout, episode 1210 iirc.

MJTC9A:

Dyno Racing and more Dyno Racing and some magazine coverage....so....what does it "Really" mean? So where are your trophies for "Real" racing?

Gee, I'm not sure what you mean. This magazine coverage was from a "real" racing event and the times we ran with those tires were smokin' fast. You asked where the trophies are. They are in the sales office of TTech, but here they are right after they gave them to us:
http://www.socalevo.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10300/ButtonWillow%20018.jpg
We also have a real nice plaque hanging in the office from the Redline Time Attack from February, '07. We also have some other drag racing trophies from 2007 as well. All 2007 not years past.

MJTC9A:
Anyone can print some pretty pics and pretty graphs...show me some "Real" results....?

Glad you asked: here are those real results:

http://forums.evolutionm.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=113608&d=1195692981
And here is a copy and paste and a link of our second place finish in the MODIFIED class at Cal Speedway in February:
Modified Class AWD:
1st Place: 1:11.515 Rus Warr Crawford Performance STi
2nd Place: 1:12.282 Paul Gerrad Tunning Tech EVO
3rd Place: 1:12.919 Robert Walker Evasive Motorsports - 2006 EVO 9

Why dont you EVER drive YOUR car Smoggy - why do you have to hire a "Pro" driver? Just curious?

Smoggy has road raced his car twice and drag raced it at least a dozen times. In fact, Smoggy can drag race his little butt off and was the first to run 11s in socal with a 16g turbo Evo. He also did [email protected] in the 1/8 on his current setup with a 1.64 60ft which shows some skills and some huge power. So get your facts straight. As far as your question as to why Smoggy doesn't drive his car for us during competition events - that one is easy: We want to win. We break no rules and compete with honor. Smoggy is a great guy and we appreciate that he is willing to risk his car (he gets sposorship benefits though), but he simply doesn't have the skills to race competitively at this level. He's a heck of a go-karter :D, but we put a lot of money, time, and our reputation on the line for these events and we go for the win!

Yes, I want to be legal and maximized for Redline Time Attacks in the street class. I'm also getting tires to compete in the modified class from time to time. I'd like how the car looks, but wish I could de-sticker it as it really makes me nervous driving around in town or on the freeways. If I were a CHP, I don't think I could resist pulling my car over.

Smogrunner
01-05-2008, 03:47 PM
Btw aren't Time Attacks, u just trying to beat the clock...I mean it's like a K1 or Dromo thing....lol...

So when will TT have a real race car? Just asking...

By your logic then, the HKS time attack evo isn't a race car either:Â* :idiot2: And Track & Field isn't a sport because in the 100 meter race, participants have to stay in their own lanes. Obviously you don't care for Time Attacks, that is fine. But it is racing.

Funny how just something as little as a exposure in a magazine can get people all dialed up. Props to TT, MFQ, AMS or anyone who made it in the magazine. Let the other people hate because at the end of the day it just makes you more popular they are talking about you :P.

Progress Report:
1.Â* Installed stiffer springs front and rear.
2.Â* Installed stiffer sway bars front and rear (front OEM bar drilled out to be adjustable).
3.Â* Completely disassembled and re-assembled my Ohlin Road & Track coilovers. Sent out to repair scratched strut shaft and basic servicing for all four dampers (got a shock dyno chart back tooÂ* ).
4.Â* Added Whiteline Roll Center Adjustment Kit.
5.Â* Add rear bump steer kit. AMS was out of stock, so this didn't happen before the alignment...
6.Â* Added new bushings to front control arms.
7.Â* Full alignment and corner balance. We found a lot more negative camber in the front and finally got the rear end to sit perfectly (lower).Â*
8.Â* Installed AMS brake cooling kit.
9. Drain entire system of brake and clutch fluid. Switching to Castrol SRF brake fluid. $
13. Remove and ship turbo to Forced Performance for HTA upgrade.
14. Reassemble turbo kit with HTA35R turbo on TTech Turbo kit. (Sticking with .63 hotside.)
15. Finally installing my AMS VSR Intake manifold.16. Switching injector brands.
17. Adjusted APR front splitter to provide more downforce and am reinforcing it more.
18. Adding a catÂ*
19. Installed front ARP wheel studs.
20. Wheels/tires/spacers for max grip for street class...
21. Get new wheel lug nuts. Thanks Evasive Motorsports for having such a great selection! Of course, I went for the cheap steel ones. Just have to install them now.
22. Re-tune coming.
Right now my biggest concern is getting my turbo back. Robert at FP said there is about a one week turnaround on these. Yesterday made one week exactly, so I'm hoping to here from them on Monday - I don't want my car to be a "pusher" at TTech anymore.
