There only needs to be one format. Â*I don't care which it is but by the way it is looking, Blu-Ray seems to be the one in the end.

So lets tally up. Paramount is using its escape clause. Universal is rumored to drop HD Exclusively. Warner, New Line, HBO, all switch to blu in last 4 days. Blu already had Disney, Sony (of course), Fox, Digital Underground(Pron), theres more but i cant remember. I think this is over.

I have both and it sucks because there are certain movies on one format that are not on the other. Â*Blows for the consumer.

aww... boo. its inevitable! they'll eventually have no choice if they're the last major studio to support it

They should just merge and call it High Ray or Blue Def

I have tried to minimize by Hi Def movie purchases because of this damn format war.

I actually have both also. 360 w/ Drive and PS3 for blu. But honestly I prefer the BLU. Looks better to me. Dont know why. And it doesnt suck if u have both.

I must agree. I only buy High Def movies when there is a massive deal. Like a BOGO. or like Best buys current $20 off total when u buy 3 Blu Rays. Some stuff u gotta take advantage of.

I really do like the fact that the PS3 is silent like the Red October when it's playing movies, games etc.

yes!Â* I chose properly for once!! LOLÂ* I held off getting both for this reason.Â* Â*I knew technically there was a ton more blu-ray players out in the market when you count PS3's.Â* Â*Then blockbuster started renting Blu-Rays, and Target dropped HD selling, so I decided not to get the HD player also.Â* The Blu-ray disk is superior, but there will only be a limited number of movies I would pay $30 to get on blu-ray unless on sale.Â* Else regular DVD running on 1080P is fine.

Standard DVD will still reign supreme for me since my rear entertainment system doesn't play Blue Ray moveis.

Telemundo

I still have a lot of standard DVDs. There are some classics that I would like to see on Blu-Ray or HD DVD. Blade Runner on Hi Def FTW!

everyone knows releasing something to the public is what makes it obsolete. now we just have to wait for red-ray and the hhddvvddbvd.

+1 on Blu Ray.. so many good PS3 games are coming out, so i would have to commit to buying PS3, and hence Blu Ray DVD instead of regular DVDs... Go Blu Ray

this might be different in this digital age of streaming porn on the internet.Â* Â* I dont think it will make as big of an impact as the VHS vs BETAMAX days because now we have broadband.Â* Â*When was the last time you went in to a video store to rent a porno? Let alone BUY ONE.....

Good thing I bought a PS3 for X-mas instead of the HD DVD player for my XBOX 360. I was debating but went with my gut feeling O0

I might just grab a PS3 after all. I'm not much of a gamer but it's more for the money.

Telemundo
01-11-2008, 06:36 PM
In the end it is cheaper. If you want to go wireless on the 360, $100 bucks for the damn adapter. You want HD movies, $180 for the player. The $400 PS3 does not play PS2 games but I mean everyone on the planet already has a PS2 so that doesn't really matter.

Blu-ray winning might not be so bad since it's a good format... but Sony on the other hand... is a POS company. All they do is rip-off consumers. Their products suck in general unless you are willing to pay top dollar.

Let's take for example all their current Blu-ray players... NONE of them do bitstream DTS-MA, even the 700 dollar BDP-500. What the hell is that? Funny how the best blu-ray player from Sony itself for the money is still the PS3.

Sony and the Blu-ray consortium is doing a good job at pushing the technology but then there's another problem... current HD discs are GARBAGE...

First off, no film in the world is filmed in 1080p, they're all 1080i or lower, so everything is converted to progressive, then they add film grain to add that "movie" look.

The biggest problem is that the audio SUCKS on most of the HD (blu-ray OR hd-dvd). Standard DD 5.1... blah... you can buy that on a regular DVD... who gives a shit... There's like 10 titles that have more than 5 channels and maybe like 3 titles in the entire world that have 7 channel LPCM.

Conclusion? the formats are too immature and Sony is a wanna-be Apple that sucks.

Everything I see on TV is advertised as, Now available for blu ray and DVD. No HD DVD. Blu ray is taking it!
