why do people get 3" harnesses not the 2"?? the 2" ones are way cheaper and look more comfortable. whats the downside to the 2" and is an NRG harness good? is there any bad harnesses to get?? why are they so cheap compared to the others?

I got Sparco 2" harnesses and i can very easily remove them if i wanted to without undoing the entire shoulder assembly thingy.
2" belts will clear most stock seats with shoulder belt holes. 3" is probably for those who are in competition of some sort and follow certain regulations.
For the stock recaro seat you will want to run up to a maximum of a 4 point harness. Schroth Rally 4 is a DOT approved street legal harness. Most other 4 point "tuner" belts are not DOT approved. There are many reasons why you don't want to run a harness w/o propper roll over protection and mounting locations.

so basically, most 2" harnesses aren't DOT approved and cannot be used for the track?
they're still safe/trustworthy though right?
DOT approved means street legal. You can run whatever you deem safe on the track... I'm just trying to point out the fact that whenever you run harnesses you should look into some sort of rollover protection (roll bar/cage) and anti-submarine strap (the 5th point in a 5 point harness).
Most people just run a harness bar and a 4 point harness. Not the safest in a roll over situation though.

Well dont roll your car over and you'll be fine. If your rolling your car over anyways, ur doin it rong.

Haha +1 to Terry
If you're going fast enough (on the track) to be in a roll over situation you probably should be investing in a cage anyway.

my Schroth Rallye 4 is 3" DOT approved =)
Here's some good reading info on harnesses and their safety issues/strong points.
