sorry if this is a repost,i dont remember this being brought up...

but for most Evo X owners that bought their car before april or have the last 6-digit of their VIN lower than 049108

you might wanna call the dealership and ask about a reflash released by MITS for the first batch of Evo X...

It is still unclear what this factory "flash" accomplishes. I just picked up a PB Evo X and it has occassional idle fluctuation. Plus my mileage sucks. I got less than 200 miles to the tank and averaged 16 mpg.

The flash is supposed to take care of any Idle problems that you may have and with the gas mileage.

So how long does this process take?

ok just got my TSB flashh and my Drop in RALLIART air filter...

not much crazy gains nor hear the spooling clearly...

BUT this is the first time i got my head pulled back to the seat like my previous IX... In comparison, it definitely pulls harder than my IX w/ a K&N drop in... dynobutt says probably 5-10hp, and now i can really enjoy my pulls...

total worth the $140 (they only had 2 so i gotta get one)...

heres some pics...

Oh, got it from SAM@SCM DEALSSSS!!! SAM's the MAN!!!

For $130 bucks for a drop in you better be able to feel it! But hey, that's Ralliart for you./

its only the reflash that gave it more, 130 wasted.

^i drove with the reflash w/o the drop in, not much power gains but the response is better and drives leaner...

then a came back to SCM after a few hours to get the drop in... and there are gains! thats my experience...

speedelements tested the reflash it gave about 15whp, I cant say for sure since nobody has tested dropins for the X but they didnt make any more power on the 8s and 9s.

^yes they did... which ever how you see it, my car gain some with the drop in... people who have it will tell you that... even if it wasn't a ralliart...

I will be posting my results once I get the reflash. I have already dynoed my X and it made between 224 whp and 230 whp. Yeah, I know different day different parameters, but that is the best that I can do.

^thanks! i would like to know if he "leaveit2bevo" is right about drop ins being a waste...
co'z i really don't think so (i really think my car is way better than any x without a drop in).

no offense "bevo"...

I've read the link before, but to me after my reflash it did feel more but its even more stronger after i added my drop in filter a few hours later (i know/felt the diff, seeing i drove around that day before adding the drop in)

^no sorry just mags "import tuners" with dyno results on the IX w/ 5-10hp gains...
http://www.importtuner.com/tech/powerpages/0701_impp_mitsubishi_lancer_evolution_mr/kn_air_filter.html

but you will get a good reading on your buttdyno after adding drop ins

We did some testing on a Evo 9 with some drop-ins. If I can remember correctly, they where: Stock / WORKS / K&N / Ralliart (2 different types / Blitz

All of them, on average did about the same as stock, maybe 1-2 hp more on some runs (did 3 runs for each filter), which can be dyno run variance. The only one that made more gains was the foam-type ralliart that made 4 whopping whp over the stock filter on average.

The only gains a aftermarket drop-in filter does with the 8's and 9's is that it doesn't have to be changed as much as the stock one.

On the X, we have not done any testing on drop-ins yet. We will very soon. We did however test a open air cone filter and it gained 22whp/22wtq on 4 runs, back to back, over the stock intake. Way more than a open filter has made on a Evo 8/9, so I can suspect that a drop-in on a Evo X might make some gains over the stock drop-in filter.

ralliart FTW!!!

2-3whp difference isnt worth the price tag a ralliart drop offers.. If your gonna spend some money and want to see some results, you're better off like Bryan mentioned going with an open element filter which has provided a good amount of gains.
Making an open element" set up stealth is even better than a drop in filter =)
bryan has some nice pixs of a stealth set up on his crazy as VIII...

I still get idle fluctuation even after the reflash, but it really doesn't bother me since the car hasn't died or thrown a CEL

nothing changed after my reflash, I have just noticed & am still draining my pocket with filling up every 165 miles or so.

I'm getting about 215-230 before a fillup is needed. I'm curious about how much City/Freeway driving you are doing. Personally, if I'm doing a lot of stop and go city driving I average about 12-16 MPG. If I do steady Freeway driving around 65-75MPH I average around 21-26 MPG . If you stay off-boost and do a lot of steady Freeway driving you should average over 200 miles per tank. *Sigh* I miss the days of sub 3 dollar gas prices :[.

^^It will depend on when your car was produced. The later cars should have the latest software so a flash should be unnecessary. However, I have heard rumors that there is actually a second update already available.

When I got reflashed, the dealer put a sticker under the hood stating that the reflash was CARB approved.

I think Glendale Mitsubishi is the closest to me but I'll be damned if I let them touch my car.

Those idiots argued with me in increasingly loud tones of voice that the GSR will never come out in Black because the PB is a MR only color.

When I showed them the pics of the PB GSR from South Coast ... they said that South Coast obviously had that custom painted.

So anyway ... ya I'm driving 75 miles each ya to South Coast
