How you doing fellas? Here is my deal. I want to buy a digital camera that takes pics and records video, BUT I don't know a damn thing about cameras. I actually went to the store today and realized how much I didn't know so I didn't want to spend the money on something that I would regret.

So, I would like one that takes good quality pictures. Personally I like it when I see the pics some of you take where the car is moving, it comes out all clear and everything around it looks like its moving. Basically I want good quality for a good price. I don't want to spend a retarded amount of dinero.

So please fellas, I know you guys can help me out with this. Holla back! :D

Most of those rolling shots are like 1 out of 100 that look awesome. Are you looking for a compact camera or a Digital SLR with different lens attachments?

I'm a believer in canon's powershot line... they take really good pictures

id say a canon 30D..i just bought a canon 40D just because i felt that in 5+ years, the lower model cameras would be obsolete..depending on your budget, id personally say, get a canon 30D, and invest in different, but a good quality lens. its the lens that makes the pictures look good..and the photographer themselves.lol

I took these pictures with a powershot that had 7.1 megapixel. It retailed for 500 at the time but I got it off of ebay for like 400 with a 1gb sd card. I can't remember the model it's packed up somewhere. The camera isn't as important as knowing how to take a picture.

here's some pics of my ride and my cousin evo9er's... these aren't photochopped or anything.

40d is great but it isn't compact. I have an XTI that I love but it definitely doesn't make sense to take it to certain places with all the different lenses. The compact powershots make a good alternative when the larger SLR's don't make sense to bring along.

Agreed. I have a powershot and an XTi that I use depending on the situation. Of course the XTI is great, but not feasible in all situations and the powershot takes amazing pics for being such a compact camera. Canon all day long baby

oh here are 3 more questions.

1- for the powershot cameras, how fast does the flash recharge
2- how much do the batteries last
3- how good is the quality for the videos

Go here to answer those questions for each model you are interested in:

http://www.steves-digicams.com/
www.dpreview.com

The batteries last forever in my experience, I mean I get 500-700 shots on each charge
Video quality is 640*480 IIRC but you can change it based on your needs. I take videos with mine sometimes at my fdaughter's softball/soccer/ballet/etc games and they actually come out pretty good for a little digicam

The powershots are great... most people don't believe my compact powershot took those pictures, but like I said, it really depends if you know how to take the pic.

To answer your questions.
The flash doesn't take long that I noticed... I never really did speed shooting with the flash. It can't be bad if I never noticed anything.
I used rechargeable AA batteries, and would charge them whenever they got low. They won't run out on you.
The video is quality is as good as can be expected from a photo camera. I'd rather use my JVC HDD Camcorder to record video, but using the video feature on the Powershot is great for spur of the moment youtube videos!

Here's all of the current powershot cameras.

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ProductCatIndexAct&fcategoryid=113

The one I have isn't even on the list, so that should say something about the quality. You won't need to buy another one for many years. Unless you break it of course. I had an A series and I dropped it quite a few times and it held up pretty good.

So just set a budget and see which cameras fall in that range. I'm sure you won't be dissapointed. Test them out at bestbuy or another retailer and then look for a better deal online at an ebay store or an online camera store.

And thanks for the picture compliment.

+1 on the powershots. Get the G9. it does still and video, as well as the ability to shoot in RAW.

Hey, I just checked some Canons other day!

SD 880 IS (newer version than SD 890 IS) is amazing! for the price below $299.99 (newegg has them for 269.99 other day) its simply AMAZING!

those 2 new models:

SD 880 IS $250 - 300
SD 990 IS $340 - 370

most likely 880 is good enough!

and remember 880 IS is a newer version than 890, (hack, why higher numbers are older???)

by the way, 880 has 4x wide-angle (28mm) optical zoom lens with optical Image Stabilizer!

WIDE WIDE WIDE =)

Hopefully I can get my hand on them for a little review!

Image Stabilization is a necessity, and wide angle is more useful than deep zoom for a pocketable camera, IMO.

Just got a Panasonic Lumix TZ5 (9MP, 10x 28-280 range, 1280x720@30fps vid, 460k pix display, ~230bux)Â* for my GFs biz, and its really a pretty good little camera.

Hey Guns did you ever end up picking something up?

Canon's IS lense function is awesome with the SLR lenses. I'm sure the pocket IS is just as. I'm a cannon fanboy, but in reality as long as the specs are the same it's ALMOST the same.

i ended up purchasing a cannon i think. wow that was a long time ago. im at work right now so i dont know which model. ill post it when i get home which wont be tomorrow. all i can say is that the cannon i purchased is awsome. i love it. and the battery last forever which makes me even happier. last camera i purchased was way back in 01 i think and that battery would die in one sitting. i guess i was way behind in technology per say. anyway, will post later. thanks for the help everyone provided in the past. well i went into the store...not even thinking about buying a camera at THAT time lol. i was actually looking at the nikon d60. the guy that was helping me out actually like canons. so he took out both cameras and let me play with them. told me the pros and cons of both. needless to say i ended up walking out with the XSi

i really like it! i'm still learning the basics of it because it's my first dslr camera. but it was pretty easy to pick up. i ended up doing a impromptu photoshoot for dmoney's car. so i'll post them up soon if you want to see the quality of the camera =]
