I couldn't find anything, hope this is not a repeat thread.

Would all you X owners post up what kind of gas mileage your getting, what kind of driving, city/highway?

EvO9marine

it sucks if you dont drive 65 mph on the highway. but if you do its not bad. i get about 27mpg driving on cruise control with the X

AaronI1
06-30-2008, 07:17 PM
if i baby it, i might get anywhere from 19-21ish on the street. Â*23ish on freeway. Â*but if you drive it any where close to normal driving, i get around 16ish city, 18-19 hwy. Â*X's run stupid rich, and mileage does suck. Like what EvO9marine said, cruise control does work wonders for better mileage though.

after the tune, i'm averaging 22-24 mpg hwy/city

SpySat

So far I have ~120 miles on the X MR and, according to the on-dash graphic data thingie, it is averaged to about 17. All city with AC engaged. There was one trip where it showed I was averaging 27 (it shows each key-on cycle as a "trip"). I'll know more when I get it far enough along to fill it up the second time.

Certainly eats more fuel than my prius, that's for sure.

yea the meter thingie shows some good mpg's when your coasting. the re tune made a difference.

which tune are we talking about? factory or aftermarket reflash? i recently got the factory reflashed and no matter what i try (cruise control, grandma driving, etc), i can't never pass 24 mpg on hw. cruise control usually gives me lower mpg. what was your average speed when you got 27 mpg?

how does the mpg on display calculated? does it calculate by the preset parameters?
for example, if it is being calculated by pre-determined values at given parameters such as rpm vs load vs speed.. displaying mpg values wouldn' effected by any improvement made by tuning for better efficiency..
but if it is being constantly calculated in real time w/ rpm vs speed vs injector timing(or any other value that are related to fuel consumption).... then it is a different story and it will effect the mpg displayed. hm...

My Evo does average 17-18 mpg at kick-in period, which is still better than my other car. a 1997 toyota corrolla who does 16 mpg. I think it is because there is a alot of uphill and downhill @ mission viejo.

cjX28
08-12-2008, 10:28 PM
22-24 mpg would be good, on a 65mph sucks on the speed cars passing thru, to an evo. can't really speed up bcoz of gas price.

The car is really old, it is a 97. I realize when you're holding the info button on the Evo X. It will reset your averg. speed and mpg. When I was cruising @ 75 mph. I reset it. It was showing 25-28 mpg for the whole time that I am on the freeway.

In my 20 minute drive to work (1/2 surface, 1/2 freeway), I get 20.5. That's with 150 miles on the car, driving normally (75-80mph), but pulling away from stop lights easily (no 5krpm clutch drops). It's getting tuned by RRE today, so I'll see if it changes after I pick it up.

yeah i try to drive mine like a grandma too, and have a couple spurts of spirited driving usually, filled up today and only avg'd about 18, last time i got a little over 20mpg and i drove so slow, maybe when i get a tune and lean it out it will do better

But with the retune at MFQ I am easily getting 20 mpg in mixed driving and 23-24 on the freeway.

A tune will lean the car out a lot (stock around 9.5/1afr. Tuned should be 11.5/1afr-ish), you will see much better mileage, but it will be so much more fun to press the accelerator peddle that you will see way worse mileage. It's a catch 22.

I chose HB Tune because of the results I see on these boards. I also talked to them and it seemed that they really know what they are doing.

Im sure the mileage will drop pushing hard on the accelerator :)

I had 300 (+/- 10) on my vegas trip going there cruising at 75 the whole way. And on the way back I got 280 (+/- 10) again cruising at 75.

kimletrim
02-10-2009, 06:11 PM
^^It constantly calculates the estimated mileage depending on your driving habits prior to the mileage being reset. For instance, if you have driven conservatively prior to say filling up the tank, and you got good gas mileage, the computer will compute the estimated trip mileage based on the prior mpg reading.

let me teach you guys a secret...right when you're about to cruise in 5th gear at a constant speed for a while, reset the MPG calculator so you can see a consistent 25-31mpg display, so your heart can bleed a little less, and your smile can grow a bit bigger on your face.

after lying to yourself, you can snap back to reality and realize that you drive a car that gets 19-21 mpg (what i get). lots of local driving with a/c blasting in crazy hot weather = 17-19 mpg. shit. i kinda wish Mitsu didn't put that freaking MPG calculator shit in the dash because it makes me wanna drive as slow as possible to get the best possible MPG, only to fail miserably and still end up with shitty ass MPG.

sorry about the rant, lawl.

about the same as you, but i do a decent bit of city driving. i fill up about every 250 miles. My mornings consists of driving through stop and go traffic on the 91 at 7:40am. Going home i often take normal streets for another 15-20 miles and i consistently get about 250 miles on the tank... i dunno what i'd get if i did strictly freeway driving.

^ I don't think I have a lead foot but people who don't know me or the evo and happen to be in the front seat of my car usually scream as I go into and out of corners...strange :-o

Seriously though, I think the car needs a tune because the gas mileage is really not all that great. If I was on a tight budget I'd be a little more concerned.

I was getting 16mpg mixed highway and city tuned at 320whp. I am now on E-85 and average 13mpg with the same mixed driving (pretty much EXACTLY 20% less) at 380whp. Don't really care about gas mileage as I bought the car to drive it the way I want. I do however like to track it every fill up.

Why does this thread even exist? This car wasn't meant to be a gas saver, its a performance oriented car which gets shitty gas mileage. I'll keep my shitty gas mileage and drive the car like its meant to be driven, and have a smile on my face the whole time doing it. If you want to save gas go buy a damn prius....

Ah, yes...

21mpg in straight 79mph superslab for the whole tank (about 250 miles). Sometimes, I can squeeze that closer to 22mpg if I set the cruise control closer to 75mph.

Mixed commuting is about 18mpg. Meh.

Country road spirit driving is closer to 15mpg, as there is some more low-key driving to and from said "country roads".

I bet I could get that in the single digits on a track with a good back straight. Oh, and a set of brake pads. C'mon people. Gasoline is liquid fun - the more you burn - the more fun you're likely having.

Rencii
02-16-2011, 05:04 PM

17 -18 MPG on average for me. The worst I saw was when going driving from our one building down the road a bit. It has some nice straight aways and a few nice high speed turns. I checked because I was driving very aggressively .......8 MPG! I am hoping after I get a tune it will improve mpg a little 17 mpg with gas prices is starting to hurt a little.

Ha ha, I am on E85 now... I was seeing 16mpg normally with 91 and now its 13mpg. I just love the powa though. Don't care one bit what my MPG is :)

I'm having my Tuned again soon with a second map for fuel economy. I'm hopeful that I can get some good MPG on that one.

I'm averaging 18.23 mpg.

It's not as good as my old IX MR, which is 21.5 mpg.

Mostly Highway

I'm still seeing about 20-22.5 average according to the math. Not too bad. Mostly driving it fairly easy. Kinda lame turning almost 4k at 80mph though. :P

I would not trust the guage. do the math as instructed from the user manual.

check the total miles drove from the trip (make sure to zero it from the last gas fill up).

then divide that from the gallons you put when filling out the next time.

so for example: 200 miles / 10.9 gallons = 18.348 mpg.

If i based mine on the avg mpg display, i'll probably get 28 mpg!

If you advance the timing in the iginition map in the cruise areas up to 43-44*, then you will get an additional 2-3 mpg. I have have done it on several Evo 10s and it works.
