So Im getting off work today, and decided to fill up at the local 76 station... As Im pumping gas, it clicks @ $23, and I think we all know thats not gonna cut it nowadays! So Im like WTF, keep pumping, and click, again... did it 4 times, got to about 26 and clicked again... this time Im like maybe my guage is off... Start the car, and the needle goes straight to half tank. (right where I expected) So I back up and hit the next pump for $23 it clicked like 3 times towards the end. I figured 26, and 23 is right where I should be now, but WTF???

Wait so you paid out $49 and only got half a tank? Â*I would say the gas station jacked you.

No, he filled $23 and was at half. Filled 3 more dollars on that pump. Filled 23 on another pump. It's like the first pump was registering a full tank and cut him off.

Have you guys ever seen your gas tank and where the fuel pump/gauge is located?

you know the difference between fueling in the cold and hot day ? when it's hot you get less gas but the meter read the same.

Not a half a tank difference. I'd be surprised if it was even a noticeable amount.

Of course I have. What's that got to do with a gas station pump shutting off?

It was prolly just foaming up, causing the pump to shut off. Next time try a slower setting on the pump, and see how that goes.

Just a faulty pump right? I get that from time to time...

exactly! I had a 1/4 tank, and was trying to fill her up... I have read that its best to fill up in the morning when its not as hot, as well as trying the lower setting and I normally do fill it up in the morning... This was actually the first time I did NOT fill it up in the morning. It was like pump was somehow seeing it as full... Weird
I think its safe to say, its better to fill up in the morning when its not so hot...

What happened was the pump you were getting gas at is at an incline. If you're at an incline (even slightly) either your sensor, the pump, or both of them think that your tank if full. I had this happen to me once and it tripped me out until someone explained it to me. Of course it could have been something else but I'm 99% sure that's what happened.

If you would just fill your tank with C16 this wouldnt happen...
:)
j/k
This has happened to me a few times.
I think its just a faulty pump...

With the way gas prices are, a $75 limiter is dumb. Hell its costing me about $51 to fill up my miata... Its just getting out of hand..

it was probably the air that was caught in the tank, next time put the fuel cap back on, turn on the car, then shut the car off, slowly remove the fuel cap and refill...
