I have always wanted a nice truck to haul the toys around but never wanted to pay $45,000 for a nice diesel truck. Well I come home from deployment to find the economy is slow and diesel prices are high. This works in my favor because all the tools that bought big trucks because they were trendy are dumping them as fast as they can. After about 2 weeks of searching I found a 2005 dodge 2500 4x4 short bed crew cab. 1 owner with 29,000 miles and a clean carfax for $21,900. The truck is still under warranty and came with navigation, tinted windows, factory bed liner, and full power.

I plan on leaving the truck stock for now and working on setting up a bio diesel processor at home. I have not decided yet if I am going to buy a processor or build my own.
The toy I will be hauling around for now is my 1985 Toyota 4runner. Solid axles, arb lockers, twin transfer cases, and a 4inch lift on 35's

The 335i beemer we got last summer has gone bye bye and all I can say is good riddance. The car was on its way to the dealership for the fourth time for warranty work. After market product support and tuning capabilities sucked. The forums are populated by morons who think that paying $7k or more for Dinan products that only put down 370hp on 100 octane is a great deal. I am sad that I got rid of my evo 9, but will have another one by next summer.

Nice work, I have been thinking about doing the same or just getting a new truck. Incentives are crazy right now and they can't give them away at invoice. Its a great time to buy if you use it as a second car or work close to home

We wanted the older 5.9 motor (325hp and 610tq), but if you want a newer 6.7 the dealers are tripping over each other to give them away. We had one dealer offer us a new one for 35,000 out the door. Thats 10,000 off sticker. Plus dodge is offering $3.00 gas guarantees and $500 a year towards oil changes for soldiers.

Makes sense and even with those incentives you saved over $13,000 getting the engine you prefer

Chris,
You gonna set it up for a 5th wheel gooseneck?? What is the towing capacity?

Not sure on the fifth wheel. Short beds are notorious for losing the back windows if you are towing a fifth wheel and you take too tight of a turn. The corner of the trailer (weekend warrior style) can hit the back of the cab. I heard they have floating fifth wheel hitches that will move around specifically for short bed diesels but I have not looked into it yet. The truck will tow something ridiculous like 16,000 pounds.

Just wondering because my folks have a huge fifth wheel camper trailer ready to be borrowed... They sort of inherited it from my niece and nephew when he got deployed to Iraq, but they don't have a truck that can tow it.

hey Chris..great to hear that you're alive and well. Wow, didn;t know the 335i was that bad. I thought e90post had chock full of success tune stories although I've als read about the dealer clamp down on modded ECUs. Was thinking about the 335 diesel wagon (may order this spring) and 300HP/400tq is making me salivate like crazy. I'm sure Al can find you a discount evo ;)

Tom if I set it up for a fifth wheel I will let you know.

John or should I say Sir ;), The 335i has a ton of problems, most notably with the auto trans. If you google search for 335i problems you can see all kinds of stuff from rear main seals to fuel pumps. We fortunately had the foresight to order ours with the 6 speed. Unfortunately we had our share of problems though. The ipod interface has never worked right from the day we got the car and would not allow a an ipod video to be used. The dealer had a software update, but conveniently forgot to install it the 3 times the car was in for service, so who knows if they can fix it. The car developed a grinding noise/ exhaust leak that was so bad we could not drive the car and had to have the car towed to BMW. It took the tow truck driver 2 hours to show up. I received no call from the dealer to notify me that they had received the car so I called them after about 5 hours. The service rep tells me he has no idea if the car is even there and had to go walk around the lot to find it. He calls me about 30 minutes later to tell me it was at the dealership but apparently no one in service knew and it was just parked randomly on their lot. The car gets fixed but there was a problem with the cylinder head and the turbos. The service rep was a complete idiot who had no idea how turbochargers function and could not give me a straight answer as to what the problem actually was. I think they just threw parts at it to get the noise to go away. The car began to develop the same noise and also developed a groaning sound from the front end when the wheels were turned so it was on its way back to the dealership for the fourth time when I said f*ck it and got rid of it. To to top it off the car has no dipstick and the dealer will only change the oil every 12 to 15 THOUSAND miles.

wow,

sorry to hear about that Chris. I knew about the fuel pumps, but head and turbo issues? My goodness. Buddy here in Germany has the 335ix and is loving it....getting at ~ 28 mpg on autobahn. Poor CS from dealership....lol don;t they know that you're from TT? I though you might get some pull at the dealership, at least in the IE ;)
