I find myself needing a new clutch, and I have had two options thrown my way. I can either go with a stock clutch, or with an act clutch. I am not knowledgeable on this kind of thing, so I was wondering what the pros & cons are of going with an aftermarket clutch, such as an ACT clutch, on a stock evo, as opposed to the oem part.

Any input is appreciated :D

The stock clutch has a very low clamp load and cannot but up with much abuse. If you are having problems with the stock clutch, why replace it with the same?
Since you're considering a stock part I'm assuming the car is fairly stock and might only need a slightly higher torque rating. You already mentioned ACT and they make several for our car. Their MB7-HDSS is perfect for daily driving and can put up with some fun. Also something to consider is this one;

Depending on how you drive your car, how much torque you do (or will put down), realy dictates what kind of clutch you need. Only if you get the wrong clutch, then yes you can do damage to other parts of the driveline.

I have the ACT with the 6-puck sprung. Probably overkill for what I have, but it works well.

I'm sortof in the same boat. I've got nearly 80k miles on my stock clutch, not slipping, all good.. but it will die someday. I'm at about 300whp/tq. I don't drag race. I do autox and track the car. Why is an ACT (or other aftermarket street=type clutch) better than stock? Given exactly the same abuse, would the ACT last longer? Is the peddle pressure similar? If it knew an ACT would last longer, I might have a little more fun.. :-)

Not sure about lasting longer, but take more abuse without fear of breaking, yes. This does not however sound like an issue for you. The peddle pressure is not even close since the ACT is much firmer than stock
