yeah if the volume is low enough you hear the wine thru the speakers.

I turned up the ipod volume, and turned down the speaker volume, seems to have reduced the whine quite a bit.

^ thats what i had done as well, once the music is rolling, its not nearly as noticeable, but a lot of ambient noise nonetheless

if you get the direct port connection for the ipod (i think it is the 16 pin port) (the plug to charge the ipod) that connection is a lot better. You will notice better audio and no whine, unless you unplug the ipod and leave it in aux mode

For best quality and sound, i put the ipod about 3/4 of the way up on the volume and do the final adjustments with the head unit. less static and white noise.

try it.

I use the Griffin interface cable which connects to the bottom of the Ipod instead of the headphone jack. (available at the Apple store)
I don't hear any alternator whine unless I am also charging the Ipod through the cigarette lighter.
The cable is pretty cool, it comes with a wall charger, cigarette lighter adapter, USB connector and audio and video RCAs.
The cable is long enough to allow back seat passengers to sit compfortably and peruse the Ipods contents...

A ground loop isolator should fix the whine.

I have the same problem but only when I have the iPod/iPhone charging via the cigarette lighter.
