I was told that my AVN6600 would not work because it requires a speed pulse. Anyone out here use this? Do I just splice it in to my speed signal wire? Let me know what u guys think?

Yes, it is for your navigation to estimate your arrival time.

Understood and I know what its for. question is, does it splice in to my speed sensor wire? Are they the same?

Yeah, splice it to this wire..

"The VSS, vehicle speed sensor, wire is pretty important. I tapped into that wire at the ECU. To get to the ECU, pop out the cover underneath the glove box by pushing the tabs. The cover will swing open. The VSS wire is in connector closest to the driver’s side in the ECU. It’s on Pin 10. It’s in the second row of wires, 3rd from the left side of the connector. Tap that wire using Pioneer’s included wire and tap and route it to the head unit."

I have the avn7000 in my evo 9 and there is a square peace under the dash which says speed sensor and it has directions on which side of the sensor to wire it. and yes its to estimate arrival time. one can also put a switch in there as I did mine to be able to make navigation commands as you are diriving or watch DVDs should you be inclined to do so.
