Hey guys,
I just picked up an Evo X GSR on Wednesday and was wondering about engine break-in. I've read many mixed things on general internet sites. Some say not to drive hard for the first 2000 miles, some say to accelerate quickly to set the piston rings, others even say the engine is already broken in at the factory and you don't need to worry about it.

I've been trying to keep it under 5000 RPMs so far but it's so hard to do :) Is it necessary?

Also, I bought an "upgraded" alarm system from the dealer, but now I'm reading that it already comes with a stock alarm and ignition kill switch. My car has a motion detection alarm, is that what I paid extra for?

Thanks!

The first night i did a 3rd gear pull and after that I did about 500-700 miles break in with mild driving.. Nothing wrong here at 20 000 miles.

most engines now should be okay, but 1500-2K of easy driving is ur best bet.... just slow down for a month or two, then have ur fun!!! O0

u'll appreciate the gas saved too!!! LOL

Too many opinions on this topic. I was taught to break it in like you plan on driving it and my step Dad built BB funny cars for a living, but WTF did he know anyway.
