Ever wondered what just adding a test pipe to the otherwise stock exhaust system on a Evo 10 would gain?

Wonder no more. ;)

2008 Evo 10

Mods:

Works Drop-in filter
Custom EcuFlash for track use
Stock downpipe and stock catback

-----------------------------------------------------

Just adding the test pipe (everything else stock in the exhaust system) gained:

+15whp / +17wtq peak.

Also gains in spool.

It also knocked a little up top as you can see. Adding the test pipe allowed the car to run approx 1psi more boost over the whole rev range and leaned it out .4 AFR

-----------------------------------------------------

I retuned it for the test pipe, richened it back up for safety (it's a track car) on 91 octane and added our boost assembly which allows more boost to be tuned in and it gained a total of:

+22 whp / +27 wtq peak over what it made before.

Data of boost curves:

Before test pipe and boost assembly:

3500 - 23psi
4000 - 23psi
4500 - 22.5psi
5000 - 21psi
5500 - 20.5psi
6000 - 20psi
6500 - 18.5psi
7000 - 17.5psi

After test pipe and boost assembly and tuned for them:

3500 - 24psi
4000 - 24.5psi
4500 - 24.3psi
5000 - 24psi
5500 - 24psi
6000 - 23.5psi
6500 - 22psi
7000 - 20.5psi

I have a stock EVO X MR... with a drop in K&N filter.. would it be safe to add a straight pipe and down pipe with stock exhuast... with no tune...??

you can add a turbo back with no tune and it will work just fine, it will lean it out some, but not even close to dangerous.

Pretty cool gains!! slighty off subject, but does a Test pipe even fit on the stock evo 8/9 exhaust or is this just another thing that makes the 10's cooler??

Test pipe is just a straight pipe that replace OEM Cat. so every car has one. and can be change to a test pipe.

I had test pipe on my 8 before .. and went with high flow cat (smells better)

To OP: what test pipe is it? I am thinking about either test pipe or .. Maybe Cobb High Flow Cat??

^^ Yea i know that part. hahah

but what im asking is since test pipes are full 3" no taper, will it line up with the stock downpipe bolt holes and the stock catback bolt holes, or are the flanges and bolt ons on the test pipe too wide for the OEM downpipe and Catback on 8/9's

I put a RRE special cat on my X. Talk to Mike at RRE, he will hook you up. With the dual magnaflows it sounds great and I got excellent power gains. Not sure what they are though. Cams are going in in a few weeks then I will tune her and see the real total gain!

I'm interested in this but was wondering that isn't the stock exhaust 2.5 in? so putting a 3in test pipe is going to cause back pressure. Right?

Well look at it this way missy... if you can put a 3" cat back onto a stock cat, why wouldn't you be able to put a test pipe on a stock cat-back?!? Same holes.... all's good!!! :D :D :D

Hm... i dunno... i guess its just the systems I have tried that DON'T have neck-downs on them, don't usually line up to my stock shit.... so in my case, the Catbacks wont go onto the cats, Test pipes wont fit between stock mid pipes and stock downpipes, and downpipes wont mate up to stock cats.

how about the testpipe with mini muffler, would it have any restrictions too like the HFC?

I was wondering that too, but I'm seriously doubting it, since flow isn't restricted.
