I was able to get my hands on a set of new Nitto NT05 tires prior to their release in February. The tires look really nice...a lot like a "street friendly" version of the more aggressive NT555R or NT01. They are definitely a high performance tire. I'll be mounting these up to a new set of 18x 9.0 Enkei RC-T4 rims shortly for some real world testing. I'll post up the results asap.

Nitto NT05 Specs:
Performance Rating: W
Treadwear: 200
Traction: AA
Temperature: A

What's with the HUGE channels? Looks like they give up 3/4" of surface area

Lets us know how well they channel water in the rain!

Yes, obviously they're for water.. The question is why they sacrificed so much surface area, and therefore dry traction.

blacktrack on evoM seemed to like them a lot

UPDATE with pictures!

I finally got the Nitto NT05 tires mounted up to my new 18x9 Enkei RC-T4 tarmac wheels and headed out to the windy roads in the canyon. I went a bit out of the way to find an area I could really test the performance.

Tire Size: 245/40/18
Wheels: 18x9 +35

My impressions:

-Excellent high performance street tire!
-Very smooth/predictable performance: I was surprised how smooth they cornered. They didn’t feel “greasy” like the Falken Azenis RT-615.
-Very easy to control in and out of the corners. No sidewall flex.
-Surprisingly quiet inside the car (big bonus for daily driver)

I previously ran the stock Yokohama Advans (wore out very quickly) and also had a set of BFG G-Force Sports for daily driving. These tires obviously blow away the BFG tires, but really compete with the Yokohama Advans. I actually prefer the way the NT05 tires feel, plus they are less noisy. The Nitto tires have a treadwear rating of 200, so I’m guessing they are going to outlast the Advans (160) significantly.

Verdict: Excellent tire overall for both street/track days. If you’re looking to improve the grip of your Evo, but don’t want to replace tires every 8-12k miles, this tire is the winner. It’s also quieter…so you might think you’re in a luxury car…for a second :)

I’ll post more results as my mileage increases.

How do they compare vs the Toyo R1R? I've been hearing nothing but good things about the NT05s but people around me still believe R1Rs are better.

I have Toyo R1r they are very nice tires, need to be heated up a little bit but grip way better than Falken Rt-615, they do cost more than these new Nt-05 though....

Oh and I think Im going to try these out when Im done with the Toyo R1R...

Awesome looking tires. Nitto has been pushing these hard in their marketing, from what I have seen.

UPDATE!

I just rotated my tires after the 3500 miles and they still look great. So far the treadwear looks very good for the compound. I'm very hard on tires :) and am happy with the slower treadwear so far.

The more I drive these tires, the more I like them. I said it before, but these tires are very smooth and predictable. Easy to drive.

I'll post up some pictures soon.

Got these installed last week and loving them.* I came from RT-615's and I am loving these tires.* To tell you the truth, the Azenis were crap.* Im very happy with these Nt05's.
