i just want to know what style of driving and regular maintenance will keep your ride kicking ass forever!

Warming up before taking off...
engine braking...
allowing turbo to cool down...
regular maintenance...
oil changes...
rotating tires... etc/ etc.

Fluids... Oil, tranny, TC, Diff. Read your owners manual in the glove box. It has a lot of useful information in there about your Evo.

doesnt engine braking put more stress on the motor?they gave me brembo's to use,so i'll use em

It might be more pricey, but I do everything at half intervals. Like the manual says change oil every 5K, so I change at 2500. The fluids aren't to be changed until 30K, so I change at 15K. Keep it fresh!

engine braking is just decelerating with your engine as hitting the gas is accelerating with you engine... same stress right?

when done right without making you rpms go up too high it shouldnt make a difference

Maintenance like already said. Automatic transmissions and the new MR X SST will always do engine braking and in emergency situations I wouldn't want to just rely on the pads only.

I say don't drive it like you stole it on a daily basis.

+1

but honestly, "forever" is a strong word, i can bet anything that the AVERAGE evo owner will trade in their car 3,4,5,6 years down the line whether it be that they are past that stage and want something more business/social friendly, or they want to upgrade to a new model. i mean this doesn't apply to everyone of course, but imo, it's reality. despite this, it doesn't mean you shouldn't still take care of your vehicle of course.

not sure about any one else, but personally, engine breaking kills my ears. feels like i'm killing my car, which is basically killing something that i care very much about. thus far there hasn't been a situation where i couldn't rely on my brake pads alone, imo engine breaking is never considered a necessity.

Brush up on your mechanic skills and perform the simpler maintenance your self. 1. Saves money. 2. This will keep you more in touch with your whip so you know whats going on with it and maybe notice leaks or sounds.

About parts, don't use cheap quality parts, you'll just have to replace them with better parts sooner. You'll know the cheap brands if you do your homework. I don't want to offend anyone, but megan and injen brand parts will never find their way onto my evo. Maybe if I rolled in a 99 corolla... but I digress.

I never beat my car like it stole something.... 24/7. But I have been having issues with items that I never messed with or added any stess to. A car is a car... if your lucky you will have a car that doesnt call for must to be fixed once it gets old. Until then............... beat it like you stole it 24/7.

they beat me to it, if u want it to last forever park it and let it sit

Even if you let it sit, all the rubber parts will harden, internals will rust, etc etc. A car is meant to be driven, so drive it and do scheduled maintenance. =)

2. Have been on this forum too long (but not as long as a lot of people).

What fun is an evo if you don't drive it and get familiar with it in a borderline dirty way though? Entropy happens and things break. The only way to be sure anything lasts forever is to keep fixing it forever.
