I heard that you can get the blow off sound from a stock Evo 9 blow off valve if this is true what do I have to buy or do to get this sound and no I don't want any aftermarket bov that will make me lose power

If anybody knows how to do this your help will be appreciated

take the cover off your stock air filter box and you will barely be able to hear it if you listen real close. lol

^^^Welcome dude........There are so many threads on this........Here's one w/alot of info & replys....http://www.socalevo.net/forum/index.php?topic=70453.0.........Most EVO Gurus frown on the BOV thing.........The AEM intake is your best bet, but you should get tuned after you install to reap the real power benefits of the open intake.......Regards MP

I just put an Apexi power intake on my car and I have the stock 9 bov. I can still hear it and the turbo spool, and it's not so loud to be obnoxious. I love it, I'm keeping it that way. I'm getting worse mpg's because I'm on the throttle all the time. lol

the more pressure with the pedal, the louder the sound...

I have a custom intake with a 4 inch filter.I think the bigger the inlet hole, the 'louder'. personally,Im getting sick of that BOV sound, but love the turbo spool!

you need an intake. and idk about aftermarket BOV's making you lose power but yea... get an intake

Open the lid of your stock inake box and poor some rice inside.

JK I had to do it...

YOu would need an aftermarket cone intake to get the most sound, other than venting to atm (which makes the car run terribly). Some people use a greddy cover, others just drop in a HKS or K&N filter in the stock box, which will make the BOV slightly audible.

if you want the dumping sound, you need a plug to cover the return hole. then let it dump into the open. but you get the stuttering from the car sometimes and you bog out

an intake will make the sound louder if thats what you want

i always heard that shortrams lead to heat soak and though you'll gain power at first, once the engine bay heats up you're going to be making the same power or maybe even less than a stock intake. anyone know if this is true for evos?

this is definitely wrong from everything I've read and experienced. stock intake on an evo is very restrictive. on turbo cars... less restriction = more power... period.

I've always wondered about this myself. I know that you're probably fine while the car is moving. But what about when you're stuck in traffic on the 15 driving to Vegas in the summer. That short ram intake has got to be sucking in the hot ambient engine bay air temps right?

true as this may be... as soon as you go WOT, the inlet air temps will come down below 100

edit: i think there have been tests showing that the heat shield NEEDS to be installed to prevent overly warm inlet air temps as well. it may seem trivial, but from what I remember, it makes a big difference.

I installed the heat shield on my Apexi power intake after driving it without, and it seems to make a bit of a difference. I also put the stock ram air inlet back on too, that might help clear away some of the heat.

No matter what u do your BOV is going to sound like this "...................."yes, nothing.... If you want the noise then do what everyone is telling you....get a intake....keep ur 9 BOV because it holds up to 34 psi(that's plenty) and u won't loose power buying after market ones....

If you really want the noise in a cheap way u can just pull the hose off ur BOV and let ur turbo SERGE! Dont worry..... It's fine....hahahaha

Or dub some sound effects off one of the fast and furious movies and burn it on a CD and loop it over in your car with the volume super high!

34psi, is this true? I thought it was 28psi. Anyhow, I just switched back to my IX bov and love it and the car is so much more fun. I almost killed myself with the silly Forge bov because the power was not linear and the throttle response was bad.

It is hard to make a custom cold air for an evo, the air going into the turbo gets heated up anyway so weather its cold or warm air it will get hot! Unless your trying to squeeze every last ounce of power from your car a regular cone intake filter should be fine and give you the sound all the cool kids love.

No. I am an idiot, so when I got mine, the first time it made the more metallic noise, I actually thought something was wrong. It does make some kind of noise, just not the BOV pssssssst. The plastic one on my car was almost completely inaudible. This was with no other mods at the time.

Sorry to start this back up but I found it with the search! I want to know how much boost the stock 9 jdm bov holds. someone said 34 but that seems really high for stock. i have the aps dual vent right now and im runnin with 28 psi. I was told that the 9 jdm is theee best so im just checkin everything out!
