I believe this problem is normal with the X's. Mine is like that too although its beginning to smooth out now, currently at 1600 miles. On Evo M most people said their transmissions didn't smooth out till about 6000-8000 miles.

On days that the transmission was extremely notchy, I would just double clutch, that helped it get into gear a lot smoother.

That sounds about right, I had the service department tell me the same thing when I brought my X back for the exact same reason

Edit: Except that really only happens to me going from 1st to 2nd, sometimes rough in other gears but only really have that problem when I go 1st to 2nd

All the Evo transmission feel like shit when cold, but if it's still grinding when warm you should have SCM take a look at it.

This is a normal condition on the evo x/ 1st to 2nd gear shift, and 2nd to 3rd. That doesn't mean it's a good thing. I took mine to SCM-Rigo. He changed the fluid with Syncromesh II and the problem is gone. Simple.

mine were like that and then started grinding. Long story short, the syncro's needed to be replaced.
