Looking at these:

http://www.polkaudio.com/caraudio/products/db651/

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_107DB651/Polk-Audio-db651.html?tp=105&avf=N

Mostly because I've wanted speakers and crutchfield has buy one get one 1/2 off on Polk right now... and they seem pretty decent.

Thoughts?

so long as they provide adequate sound, i would judge them as good.

do you have an amp, headunit, and wiring to go with them?

I have this Alpine HU:

I was just planning on running them off the HU.Â* I suppose I could get an amp if it would make a huge difference.Â* I've used the Alpine built in before with pretty good results.

those polks are good for the price. I used to sell those db all day when i was working at circuit city. Those are polk's low end speakers but theyre decent. I would get some infinity kappas or something but if your on a budget those are good enough

i tried these out and didnt like them. I liked the infinity refrence much better than the DB's.

you should maybe purchase them at fry's and then return them if you dont like them..

the memphis do.. they sound kripy clear and crazy loud...I only had 2 6.5" and 2 6"X9" with 2 tweiters.. and a memphis amp for my voice good thing I took it all out and I am thinking of putting it on my evo... I am not sure yet.. I dont want to get another ticket for sound.. but trust me if its quality that you want you wont go wrong with memphis

If you want my opinion the brand doesn't mean anything look for the specs you want from your speakers. Sometimes people get wrapped up brand names too much and forget that specs are what matter in terms of sound quality. Take the

Polk DB651
Overall Frequency Response 35Hz-22kHz
Nominal Impedance 4 ohms
Power Handling (continuous) 60 w
Power Handling (peak) 180 w
Efficiency 92 dB

vs.

Planet Audio AP625
Sensitivity: 91 dB
RMS Power Range : 124 Watts
Peak Power Handling: 250 Watts
Impedance: 4 Ohm
Frequency response: 60-20000 Hz
Diameter: 6.5 Inch
Design: 2 Way
Bottom Mount Depth: 2-1/2 Inches

The planet audio is a way better speaker for the price you are going to pay for the polk audio, and depending on the type of amp you have and stand alone crossover unit i could make them sound even better with a sold pair of 6x9's.

best bet would be to go to an audio shop and bring in a cd you listen to a lot and pick the speakers which sound best to you

I've been looking for new speakers all around. I think I'm going with MB Quart vs. Polk. I found good prices on Amazon for both brands for component and regular sets.
http://www.amazon.com/MB-Quart-PVI-Component-Speakers/dp/tech-data/B001B05ODG/ref=de_a_smtd
http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-DB6501-6-5-Inch-Component/dp/B000P0R6LQ/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1276276239&sr=1-8

One thing though is that the Polks come with an adapter ring to fit 6 3/4 applications and a 25mm tweeter. The MB have a 40mm tweeter. Not sure how big of a tweeter we can fit in the stock opening. Anyone know?

I'm reading through the Polks now and can't decide which to get. Might go with the Polks now for ease of mounting and the smaller silk tweeter, some are saying the MB tweeter tweets too much!

Here are the two setups I was comparing.

Polk setup: $320, using the MB amp drops price to $280
Polk db 6501 components
Polk db 651 coaxial
Alpine amp 4ch RMS 50x4
Pros: speakers can handle the power no problem and should be a drop in fit with the adapter rings they come with.
Cons: just the price being a little higher but it's only $50.Â*

MB setup: $268
MB PVI 216 components
MB dkh116 coaxial
MB amp 4ch RMS 80x4
Pros: matched components sold as a set, reputation for quality
Cons: have to fab my own adapter ring or buy one, maybe. Tweeter may not fit factory spot. factory 1inch, MB 1.5 inch. Can't find specs on how big the amp is, I want to put it under the passenger seat.

I went with the Polk set up with the Alpine amp from amazon.com
