I got a letter from Mitsu today saying that I'm one of the selected few that they randomly chose for emissions testing (R&D) on 08MY mitsu vehicles :idiot2:. It's supposedly to test how their components hold up after real world driving. They are offering $300 and a later MY loaner with unlimited mileage.

It's two separate letters, one from Mitsu and one from a company called California Environmental Engineering. I'd hate to throw the stock components back on (intake and exhaust). I know it's not much but I'm just real lazy. I'd also hate this to be mitsu's and this other company's ploy to get modded cars in (thank god I haven't tuned the car yet). :knuppel2: What do you guys think? Throw the car back in stock, and get that 300 bones towards my tune O0? I also hate that they would have my car for 5-10 days :buck2:

What to do, what to do.

I know, I'm sure they have a lot of vehicles and they'll probably be doing more than just an emisions test (actualy component tests for wear, maybe). But I just don't think that 300 is worth leaving my car for that long and with people I don't know, and honestly don't trust!

I work at a Honda dealer i am a service advisor and I see this all the time they just want the stock parts to check them for emissions reasons. If your car has all the stock parts they want they will give you a loaner and replace the components they take with new parts at no cost to you sometimes they give you money sometimes they will pay for service on the vehicle to compensate you. I say go for it they just want to do some research and development. Â*If your car is modded they probably dont want to use your car they want cars that are not modded. Â*good luck O0 O0 O0

I guess I should at least put the intake back to stock since it has the MAF. damn my lazy arse. I guess 20 min of my time is worth 300.

i got a letter too just recently but i dont wanna lend them my baby for 5-10 days just for $300 bucks, who knows what they'll gonna do to my car while testing it. i would probably do it if i have an ordinary lancer. but for my evo? hell no! everyone wants to drive it and push it to the max.

+1... got two of these in the mail.... Don't need the money and Im paranoid about them logging my info. Dont forget, just cuz its stock now, doesnt mean you wont mod later... Would you want a record of your car anywhere, especially at mitsu corporate? In addition, stock bolts and parts are marked. Say you put your stock stuff back on... they could still take note that you had removed/re-installed stuff...

I dont know what happens in the background for 5 days with these guys, but for me, the thought of making $300 is not worth it. Id rather just work overtime. :)

I got the letter some time ago... probably about 2 months. I thought, "What the hell" so I replied back. Never got a response to participate. Oh well.

FYI: A full cycle CVS/FTP chassis test takes at 6 hours and is preceded by a ten hour cooling period.

It's nothing sinister. The Feds require the real world testing. A few manufacturers have to do recalls because somethign they rigged dont last long term.

MMSA sends a million letters out because everyone is paranoid of Dick Cheney's black helicopters and tosses the letters in the trash.

Probably true... I wanted the $300 and a chance to mash a "late-model" rental car. :D
