my buddy is on Eibach Pro kits on his x... the ride is surprisingly pretty darn smooth for a DD, and the drop is not half bad. For the cost, its pretty good.

I have a friend that has 19x10 rims with 275 tires. I am trying to help him find springs... but he may have to find coil-overs to make sure it doesnt rub.

If you want to try some Progress Springs I can make you a good deal installed. Hit me up at [email protected].

Progress Propaganda:

The springs feature sport-tuned rates and a modest drop of 1.25” in the front and .85” in the rear.* They have been developed for use with the the OEM dampers.* The springs are cold wound, shot peened, load tested, and includes a lifetime warranty.

Progress rates:
260 #/in. front (4.6 kg/mm) +36% stiffer than OEM
230 #/in. rear (4.1 kg/mm) +15% stiffer than OEM

Pardon me for bumping this thread, but what reputable shop can I get Eibach pro kit lowering springs from? Maybe the cheapest one too.

And BTW Mike W, why is that the 2 WW Evo's in your post have different stance from each other if it's dropped on the same spring? Maybe it's just me?

just you most likely, the black wheels give off the illusion of a lower height...also the second picture looks to be on an uphill and at a lower angle which makes it look higher

Same car, same spring, different wheels, tires and angles.

Now I'm torn between Eibach and Progress. Any close up shots of wheel gaps on Progress springs fully settled? Anyone kind enough to measure the distance between the level ground up to the tip of the fender?

And Mike, how much are we looking at for those Progress springs?

What springs do you guys recommend for an Evo X that look and ride the best?

We tested several different configuration springs and found that the majority of them are too low for the amount of available suspension travel.

Ours look like:

Hey thanks! I'm more concerned about the passenger side since that side doesn't carry weight most of the time (driving alone). Like the Eibach Pro kit, they don't settle evenly. I mean, there's no perfect springs, but at least the height difference is +/- 1/4" the most. Most of the time the driver side is lower than the passenger side and you really notice it from afar.

There's no objective road tests, such as a slalom test, that shows which spring set outperforms the others.* I wish there were.* On their website, Muellerized touts an improvement in handling based on a before-and-after test of speed and g-force on the "test corner" near their shop.* I'm leaning towards Muellerized because their spring set has the least amount of drop out there (3/4" front, 5/8" rear) and because of their reputation.* Both Muellerized and GT Worx have expressed concern about too much drop ruining the handling.

captain-stl
08-06-2009, 05:21 PM
what are they exactly concern about.. and their reasons for it.. did you see BLKside's blue X.. it looks amazing .. is only a 1.6" in front and 1" in the back..

Captain STI - For car owners who are concerned about handling, Mueller and GTX Worx aren't keen about installing springs with more than 1" of drop because you lose too much suspension travel and the car will probably rest on its bump stops when driving aggressively into turns, which screws up the handling big time.* Plus, too much of drop even with coilovers alters your suspension geometry and mucks up the handling resulting in extra understeer and roll.* The negative effects of altering your suspension geometry can be compensated for by a balljoint lowering kit like the one made by Whiteline.* Also, too much of a drop will shorten the life of your struts.* *

It's a tradeoff.* If you're about looks and not about handling, lower looks great.

thanks for the info .. oh and is not STI... is STL .. lol

I just ordered the Works 1/2 inch drop springs, Hotchkis sway bars, and the Whiteline roll center kit.* *I went with this set up because I'm more interested in handling performance than a lowered look and wanted to avoid hitting the bumpstops in the turns.* *;)

WEll on the eibach pro kit i never hit the bumpstops once on daily driving or a couple of sspirited runs. Dont know about the works but handling is directly correlated to a lower center of gravity.

triguy
08-18-2009, 05:53 PM
Glad to hear you haven't hit your bumpstops when you're driving. I'm playing it conservative in terms of drop because I plan to do an occasional track session. The posts I've read from the suspension specialists like Muellerized and GT Worx caution against springs with a drop of more than an inch because of a loss of suspension travel and potential to end up on the bumpstops during aggressive driving. When installing his springs, Mueller trims the bumpstops even though the springs just have a 3/4" drop in front and 5/8" drop in the rear. If you're not going to the track, you're probably fine.

Well good thing I dont live only in SCE. Have you looked through other forums.. How about the guy who has like 10+ track days on his Prokit with 0 issues. Im trying to put out options there. I am not pushing anything cause I dont have a shop so my input is from my experience. And MY experience is that I beat the shit out of my car on those springs and never had an issue. And harder than at a track in some cases...

Yes. We are a full service shop for street cars to full on race cars. From brake pads to timing belts to roll cages and trackside support. If it is an EVO or Eclipse, we do it since 1994. Mail order, walk in counter sales, dyno tuning, service :-)

$370 installed parts and labor for the Eibachs. You need to get your toe-in adjusted after asap.

Then that is the reason to spend the extra cash for coilovers. Mueller can set them up with suspension travel.

Stock dampers tend to die away noticeably by 20k to 30k miles. Right about the time the average guy is getting brave and modding the car for looks and performance. So if you put any spring on a car that will have dead dampers regardless, what killed the shock?

Im not sure what your alluding to... one guy who said they killed his shocks.. maybe he lives in DC where his shocks go every 10k miles from potholes anyway. Do a little more research around EvoM and you will find excellent feedback in regards to the Pro Kit.

Maybe these guys are wrong also...
"Increasing the FQ-400's cornering ability even further over its FQ relatives is a wider track and lowered suspension featuring Eibach springs and Bilstein Shock Absorbers. Lightweight 18-inch, nine spoke alloy wheels fitted with Toyo Proxes R1R tyres enhance the FQ-400's grip, giving it sharper cornering response on the road and more incisive steering. The enhanced agility and performance is backed by a revised braking system which uses aerospace grade aluminium alloys and floating sealed discs grabbed by high performance pads."

Best Springs IMO is the Eibach Pro Kit.. followed by Swift. But the Eibach evens the drop more than the swift.

OK I dont know what the heck just happened, but I posted and it bumped up some thread that I had open in another page. It might look like Im spamming but Swift springs is coming out with SpecR's. Just talked to them over the weekend and the lead time is a month.
1.5" drop in the front
1" in the rear.

5.3k spring rate all around with linnear rates. They said that it is purely for performance, and is a cheaper alternative to coilvers within the range of the stock struts.

they are going to continue the sport springs as well for the people wanting a less aggressive drop and a more comfortable ride.
