So had some issues with the car thought the front diff took a **** on me. I pulled it out and it looks fine however I discovered this. My question is can I remove the torque tube and replace it with the trans in the car?

The 8 and 9 is too heavy for me now after driving this one. I love driving it. So I have to pull the tranny? Well that sucks. Shit happens though. She'll just come back stronger then.

damn man, i thought you were keeping your car stock?

And yeah, I would say get a 8 to beat on... but then again... your's is basically a gsx drivetrain so you can get parts much cheaper than the evo stuff...

Fuckit! pull the sucker out and send it to shep!

Actually it's closer to the 8 or 9 drivetrain. The evo 3 was the last evo model that had the eclipse style drivetrain.

So good news is damage looks to be limited to that tube judging by the relatively clean break. Have to pull the trans though and crack open the case to replace it so I can get to the snap ring at the bottom. A billet tube from Shep is $330, so that's not too bad. Hopefully the front diff is ok looks like it though. Won't be back from Utah till the 15th so I won't be able to pull it till then though and that sucks.

Nice! I still can't believe you did that... How much power are you pushing in that thing anyway?

Don't know for sure but a few people that have ridden with me have estimated that it's around 270whp. It's pretty stock power wise with only minor upgrades but the tuning is pretty aggressive from the factory.

^that's it and you did THAT?!?!?

hmmm... tad bit of an aggressive driver, aren't you? lol

Not agressive I just drive it like the factory designed it to be driven lol

no problem man always glad to help a fellow evo owner out.

So some updates pulled the trans apart about a month ago.
Had to disassemble the front LSD to get the part of the shaft that was broke out. That was my first time disassembling a differential. Was not nearly as hard as I thought it was going to be.
When I pulled the center diff out of the trans I had to disassemble it as well to get the other half of the shaft out not as hard as I thought there either. Only issue was removing the roller taper bearing from the top of the center diff. It broke when I removed it. Pretty normal from what I hear though.
Took almost three weeks to get the shaft from mitsubishi just came in the other day.

DAmn..... that is some serious stuff... I like how the ENTIRE length of the shaft is twisted except for a couple inches on the end. Nice.

And I thought you were going to get a unit from shep to replace it?
